JOB SUMMARY

Arch Financial Holdings Australia Pty Ltd and its subsidiaries (“Arch LMI”) are an APRA licensed provider of Lenders Mortgage Insurance (“LMI”). ALMI is a subsidiary of Arch Capital Group Ltd (“ACGL”); which is a S&P 500 global provider of insurance and reinsurance across a variety of product lines.

The Head of Finance is a key member of Arch LMI’s Finance Team. The Head of Finance is responsible for all aspects of financial control and reporting for Arch LMI.

The Head of Finance oversees all aspects of financial, statutory and regulatory reporting, internally and externally. Additionally, this role has oversight of the preparation of management financial reports to senior management and the Board/ Committees. The Head of Finance is responsible for the active management and intentional engagement with the finance team to promote an overall culture of professional growth and development within the team.  

The Head of Finance has accountability for the Finance function’s compliance with relevant APRA prudential requirements and compliance with other regulatory bodies.

The Head of Finance reports directly to the Chief Financial & Customer Officer (CFCO) of Arch LMI.
 

Essential Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • In collaboration with the CFCO, develops and implements financial strategies and ensures financial goals align with Arch LMI’s overall strategy.
  • Accountable for the end-to-end financial reporting process, including preparation of financial reporting materials to senior management and the Board/Committees in an efficient, timely and accurate manner.
  • Lead and manage the timely preparation and filing of quarterly and annual statutory financial statements with ASIC and statutory lodgements with all required states and territories. Lead and manage compliance with relevant APRA prudential standards.
  • Partner with the CFCO in developing and maintaining annual capital and financial budgets as well as quarterly reforecasts.
  • Manage effective coordination and communication with external auditors, internal auditors and management, ensuring audit results are appropriately reported and communicated.
  • Lead and manage the development and maintenance of internal accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with current and emerging reporting and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead and manage team to accomplish objectives through effective recruitment & selection, training & development, performance management and rewards & recognition
  • Accountable for ensuring timely, accurate and compliance with payroll obligations in conjunction with third party service provider and HR.
  • Oversight of preparation of taxation calculation in conjunction with Group Tax and managing third party tax advisors to ensure compliance with relevant ATO requirements and obligations.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting practices (GAAP) and statutory accounting principles and practices under US GAAP, IFRS17, Sarbane-Oxley and Australian Accounting Standards, and insurance industry requirements.
  • In-depth understanding of financial reporting and internal control processes.
  • Good analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills. 
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong people management skills to lead teams to accomplish results.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and track record of effective interactions with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Process and results oriented.
  • Proficient with general ledger applications, statutory reporting software(s), Microsoft Office applications.

Education & Experience:

Required knowledge and skills would typically be acquired through:

  • CAANZ/CPA credential and public accounting experience.
  • Advanced knowledge (10-15years) in the areas of GAAP/Statutory accounting.
  • Experience and knowledge of taxation accounting and regulations.
  • Experience in a leadership role dealing with multiple stakeholders (including board directors, regulators, investors, group finance functions and auditors).
