Stake is looking for a Head of Risk and Compliance to join our team at our Bondi Junction HQ, with a flexible hybrid working model (3 days in the office, 2 WFH).

About this role 

The Head of Risk and Compliance will join Stake during an exciting time of growth and expansion to lead and uplift our risk and compliance functions. Reporting directly into the General Counsel and Chief Risk Officer, the role will encourage a strong risk culture, ensuring that Stake engages in well understood and effectively managed risk that aligns with our strategic goals. We are looking for a high performing and resourceful individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can provide leadership to the broader risk and compliance team and advice to the SLT. 

Stake is growing with some exciting business aspirations and this role will be instrumental in accelerating our growth with confidence. Previous experience in understanding scale-up environments and how to deliver efficient processes and outcomes across all risk and compliance management disciplines will be highly beneficial. 

Key responsibilities include the following (but are not limited to):

  • Lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of the risk management and operational risk frameworks
  • Ensure effective risk identification, assessment, monitoring and mitigation across the business
  • Establish effective risk strategies, monitor that they are operating effectively and ensure alignment with Stake's risk appetite
  • Maintain compliance with AML/CTF regulations as they apply to Stake's business
  • Advise senior management on risk exposure and promote a culture of compliance, accountability, and risk awareness across the organisation
  • Prepare regular risk and compliance reports for senior management and board committees
  • Develop, implement and oversee Stake's compliance program as well as perform regular compliance reviews and assessments
  • Review policies and procedures annually and when regulatory changes impact the business of Stake
  • Ensure effective communication of compliance policies, procedures and controls to all levels of staff
  • Ensure preparedness for business disruption, oversee disaster recovery planning
  • Liaise with regulators and ensure that policies align with compliance and risk requirement environment.

A bit about you

  • Bachelor's degree in law, business, finance or a related field
  • 7-10 years experience in risk management and compliance in the banking/financial services industry at a senior level, preferably banking experience 
  • Strong knowledge and practical understanding of financial crime risk management, including anti money laundering and fraud prevention practices
  • Ability to strategise, construct and deliver best practice risk management approaches to enable Stake during a time of rapid growth
  • Ability to engage with team members and stakeholders across the organisation to effectively convey risk and compliance approaches 
  • Strong interpersonal, business partnering and leadership skills.
