Your role

In line with our ambitious digital transformation and growth strategy, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Head of Legal Technology and Client Solutions to join our Innovation & Digital Solutions (IDS) team in Sydney or Melbourne.

Allens IDS team is our NewLaw offering and an industry leader in technology-enabled legal service delivery.  We partner with our clients to solve their legal challenges, enhance their legal functions and demonstrate value to their business.  We leverage deep expertise in AI, automation, digital transformation, legal operations, managed services and flexible resourcing to provide our clients with high quality, high value integrated services.   

You'll be joining one of the largest and most advanced legal technology teams in Australia - one that has been named Australia and New Zealand’s Most Innovative Companies by The Australian Financial Review for six consecutive years.

As the Head of Legal Technology and Client Solutions, you will play a key role in developing and delivering our digital transformation and AI strategies working with internal business teams, lawyers, Partners, clients,  technology vendors and the broader market. You will also lead a range of strategic initiatives for the group including the development of new services, the exploration and implementation of emerging technologies (R&D) and team leadership and learning initiatives.   

In this highly strategic and client facing role you will be primarily focused on:

  • Leading the development and delivery of the firm's legal operations services working with our clients to support them in improving the efficiency and operational effectiveness of their legal functions.   

  • Contributing to shaping and executing the firm's AI strategy and roadmap, including engaging with our clients and the broader market in this context.  The role is positioned as a key AI thought leader at Allens. 

  • Enhancing the market profile and positioning of our innovation and legal technology services, including through developing thought leadership publications, presenting at industry conferences, and collaborating with key industry bodies on topics including AI and innovation in legal service delivery.

  • Contributing to overseeing the delivery of our eDiscovery and regulatory services (alongside our leadership team) and our managed data services offering, including co-leading a large team of highly proficient managers and legal technology consultants.   

  • Identifying and leading business development opportunities and actively contributing to winning work for the firm, including through the development of client pitches and proposals and leading pursuits.  

  • Providing emerging technology advisory services to our clients with a particular focus on supporting our clients on how they can more effectively leverage AI to drive efficiency and greater value across their legal functions. 

  • The identification, development and leadership of strategic growth initiatives and new IDS service offerings.

This is a permanent, full-time opportunity.

About you

You will have:

  • A strong background working in professional services, legal operations and / or eDiscovery is essential. Qualifications in Law, IT, AI, Data Science or Software Engineering are highly desirable.

  • Significant experience, ideally within a law firm, professional services firm or Corporate legal department.  

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and client consulting skills, with demonstrated ability to develop trusted client relationships (for example with General Counsel and Legal Operations leaders across the profession).  Exceptional presentation skills are essential.

  • Demonstrated ability to influence and manage diverse stakeholders, including clients, lawyers, Partners, technology vendors and leaders across key industry bodies.

  • Recognised in the industry as a thought leader and subject matter expert in innovative legal service delivery. 

  • Excellent people leadership skills, with proven experience in managing and collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams. 

  • Deep technical and consulting expertise in legal operations optimisation, eDiscovery and / or legal practice transformation.  Technical experience in using tools such as Harvey, Legora, CoCounsel, Relativity, Reveal, Nuix, Microsoft PowerPlatform (including PowerBI, PowerAutomate and PowerApps)  is highly desirable.

  • Strong knowledge of relevant court rules, practice directions and industry best practice in relation to the use of AI and technology more broadly in the delivery of legal services.

  • A commercial mindset with the ability to identify and pursue market opportunities and collaborate with stakeholders to deliver high value and commercial, technology-enabled solutions for our clients. 

  • Excellent understanding of legal market and legal technology landscape.
