The Hill Associate News Producer, Breaking News, Original Content

The Hill, a division of Nexstar Media Group, is seeking a full-time Associate News Producer to assist with the production of breaking news, long and short form video programming focused on politics and culture. The Associate News Producer will assist in production, research, writing and producing live breaking news, special political news coverage, original Hill shows, and assist the line producer in the control room.
 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist in research, production and writing breaking news in a timely manner for YouTube, Streaming, Broadcast and Digital
  • Assist news producers and executive producers on live special political coverage for Streaming, Broadcast, YouTube and Digital
  •  Pitch and assist in daily editorial and developing new programming
  • Create thumbnails and write headline titles and descriptions for YouTube as needed
  • Edit news hits or interview clips as needed
  • Serve as a control room prompter, and back up assistance for the line producer for live programming as needed
  •  Stay current on YouTube platform developments, trends, and training
  • Perform other duties as assigned by news management
     

Requirements & Skills:
 

  •  Must have experience in broadcasting and digital in national newsrooms or top market
  •  Strong news judgement
  •  Understanding of official Washington and national politics
  • Experience in broadcast writing skills
  • ENPS or INEWS experience preferred
  • Editing and Thumbnail experience preferred
  •  Quick decision maker and creative thinker
  •  Bachelor’s degree in journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
  •  Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Must also be capable of interacting positively and productively with other employees all while understanding you are leading by example
  •  Knowledge and familiarity with newsroom technologies including Adobe Premiere, photoshop, OBS (preferred but not mandatory)
  •  Ability to adapt to change, meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  •  Flexibility to work different shifts
     

Salary Range: $53,000 - $55,000 commensurate with experience
