Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Infrastructure & Automation Consultant to support a key engagement with a Federal Government client. This role is ideal for a hands-on automation specialist with deep Puppet expertise who can drive complex transformation initiatives and deliver tangible outcomes.

You will play a critical role in the design, re-architecture, and implementation of Puppet Enterprise environments, helping modernise infrastructure, improve security posture, and accelerate automation maturity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and contribute to the design and implementation of Puppet re-architecture initiatives
  • Deliver hands-on engineering across Puppet Enterprise platforms, ensuring scalability, stability, and performance
  • Implement and optimise Continuous Delivery pipelines for Puppet Enterprise
  • Drive secure compliance management practices, including automated provisioning, configuration, and patching
  • Develop and maintain automation using Puppet Bolt and Infrastructure-as-Code approaches
  • Integrate Puppet environments with HashiCorp Vault for secure secrets management
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to align technical solutions with project and regulatory requirements
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues across infrastructure and automation layers
  • Produce clear technical documentation and contribute to best practices and standards uplift

Qualifications

Technical Expertise:

  • Strong hands-on experience with Puppet Enterprise in large-scale environments
  • Proven track record in infrastructure automation, configuration management, and platform engineering
  • Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure and configuration delivery
  • Expertise with Puppet Bolt and automation tooling
  • Experience integrating with secrets management platforms (e.g., HashiCorp Vault)
  • Strong knowledge of Linux and/or Windows systems administration
  • Scripting skills in Python, Bash, or PowerShell

Delivery & Consulting Experience:

  • Experience working in complex enterprise or government environments
  • Strong understanding of secure and compliant infrastructure practices
  • Ability to work in project-driven environments with defined deliverables and timelines
  • Proven ability to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions

Collaboration & Leadership:

  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
  • Ability to work autonomously while collaborating with cross-functional teams
  • Strong problem-solving mindset with a focus on delivery and continuous improvement

Highly Desirable:

  • Experience working with Australian Federal Government or regulated environments
  • Exposure to DevOps toolchains and modern engineering practices
  • Familiarity with cloud or hybrid environments (AWS/Azure)
  • Previous involvement in platform re-architecture or transformation programs
