Are you the person everyone calls when a system breaks, a platform needs improving, or a complex technical problem needs solving? Do you enjoy getting hands-on with Microsoft 365, Azure, automation, security, networking and endpoint management rather than sitting in meetings all day? If so, this could be the perfect role for you.

Altis Consulting is looking for an experienced IT Operations Lead / Senior Systems Administrator to take ownership of our core technology platforms and help drive the ongoing evolution of our cloud-first technology environment.

Working closely with the Head of IT and CIO, you’ll support and improve our Microsoft 365 and Azure environments, endpoint management, identity services, cyber security controls, networking, automation and business continuity. You’ll play a key role in ensuring our systems remain secure, reliable and scalable.

This is a hands-on technical role with a strong operational focus. You’ll lead internal IT operations, contribute to projects, implement new technologies, automate manual processes, strengthen security controls and resolve complex technical issues across the business. You’ll also act as a technical escalation point for the IT Support team and provide guidance to the IT Support Analyst where required.

Please note this is an Australian role and you must be located in Sydney.

What you’ll do

  • Lead the management and continuous improvement of our cloud-first technology environment.
  • Administer and support Microsoft 365 services, including Entra ID, Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams and Intune.
  • Monitor and maintain internal networks, internet connectivity, Wi-Fi and telecommunications services.
  • Maintain infrastructure standards, documentation, policies and operational procedures.
  • Drive continuous improvement across IT services and operational processes.
  • Monitor ticket queues and identify and escalate tickets based on severity and impact.
  • Resolve complex tickets and escalations from the IT Support Analyst.
  • Improve support processes by identifying opportunities and automating repetitive tasks.
  • Provide support coverage when the IT Support Analyst is on leave.
  • Assist with procuring and provisioning laptops for new starters and conduct first-day IT onboarding sessions.
  • Enhance information security policies, standards and procedures.
  • Contribute to cyber security operations, including monitoring, incident response, vulnerability management and security investigations.
  • Maintain and test backup, disaster recovery and business continuity capabilities.
  • Participate in compliance reviews and remediation activities to support ISO 27001 certification and regulatory obligations.
  • Manage system patching, configuration management and technology lifecycle activities.
  • Maintain asset inventories, technical documentation, disaster recovery procedures and operational records.
  • Drive automation, innovation and technology initiatives that improve business efficiency and resilience.
  • Collaborate with business leaders to ensure technology services support Altis’ strategic and operational objectives.

What you’ll bring

You’ll bring:

  • 5+ years’ experience in IT infrastructure, cloud operations or IT support. MSP experience is a plus.
  • Broad hands-on technical experience across on-premises, cloud and SaaS technologies.
  • Demonstrated experience managing Microsoft 365, Azure, endpoint management and enterprise networking.
  • Strong support experience and a customer-focused mindset.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • An understanding of fundamental cyber security concepts and controls.

Experience in the following areas would also be highly regarded:

  • Maintaining ISO 27001 or similar compliance frameworks.
  • Business continuity, backup and disaster recovery processes.
  • Microsoft certifications, preferably Azure.
  • Fortinet certification, including NSE 1–4.
  • Microsoft Purview, Entra ID, Defender and Sentinel.
  • Automation platforms, including Power Automate and Azure Automation.

Why Altis?

For more than 25 years, Altis has focused on one thing: helping organisations create better outcomes through data. We’re Australian-owned and technology-agnostic, which means our people can focus on solving the right problem rather than selling a particular platform.

At Altis you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Work in a hands-on role where you can make a visible impact across the organisation.
  • Improve and shape the technology platforms used across the business.
  • Work across cloud services, cyber security, automation, networking and IT operations.
  • Build your capability through ongoing learning and career development.
  • Work in a collaborative environment where you’re encouraged to challenge ideas and contribute your own.
  • Work flexibly through our hybrid model.
  • Access health and wellbeing support for you and your family.
  • Access paid parental leave and our reward and recognition program.

Our values - Be Curious, Own It, Lead with Heart and Discover a Way - shape how we work with our clients and with each other.

Your next move doesn’t need to tick every box

If the role sounds like the direction you want your career to take but you don’t meet every requirement listed, we’d still encourage you to apply. Different experiences and perspectives make our teams stronger.

If you need adjustments or support at any stage of our recruitment process, let our Talent Acquisition team know and we’ll work with you.
