Overview

Financial Standard (www.financialstandard.com.au) is a leading trade publication, read by more than 22,000 financial advice, superannuation, life insurance and investment management professionals.

We are looking for a Journalist who will help maintain and grow the reputation of Financial Standard in content and research. In this role, you will generate content for both online, print and multimedia. Areas of interest will need to cover superannuation, tax, estate planning, financial planning, insurance, debt and practice management and investment but are not limited to these sectors.

Responsibilities

  • Generate two to four news articles daily for the online masthead.
  • Write in-depth and investigative feature articles for the print newspaper on a rotating roster, as well as mini-features or conference coverage as assigned by the managing editor.
  • Approve all content and edit material for a journal title, produced once a year and weekly/monthly online.
  • Attend industry conferences and events when necessary - may require some domestic travel.
  • Provide the editor with assistance on multimedia content from time to time, including the Financial Standard podcast and video content opportunities.
  • Liaise with multiple teams in the company, including the broader editorial team, as well as research and client services teams.
  • Adhere to strict deadlines with tight turnaround times.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, media studies or similar
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a similar/financial journalism role; preferably on digital media while experience in print is a plus. New graduates are welcome to apply.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills as well as superb networking capabilities
  • A genuine interest in or pre-existing knowledge of Australia's financial services industry
  • Outstanding organizational and time management capabilities
  • Ability to work under pressure or in a fast-paced environment, working to tight deadlines
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word
  • Strong attention to detail
