Job Description

In a rapidly evolving global financial landscape, ensuring continuous regulatory compliance and building resilient risk controls are paramount to Wise's mission of "Money Without Borders." We are seeking a Lead Data Analyst to scale the data foundations that safeguard our customers and uphold our global regulatory commitments.

This is a critical role that will partner with our product, engineering, risk, and compliance teams to drive data-driven decisions. You will be instrumental in building and scaling innovative risk controls and assurance mechanisms across all our products, ensuring our customers can transact with peace of mind, knowing their accounts and funds are secure and that Wise adheres to the highest global regulatory standards. This team doesn't just build guardrails; it actively shapes the future of secure, compliant financial services at Wise.

How you’ll contribute:

  • Architect and Scale Risk Data Infrastructure: Lead the design, development, and continuous improvement of our risk data infrastructure, empowering regional teams with granular, actionable metrics to proactively identify and mitigate emerging risk drivers.

  • Develop and Optimise Control Frameworks: Drive the creation and implementation of robust metrics to monitor control performance, ensuring their effectiveness and supporting advanced control testing processes.

  • Establish Control Efficiency & Innovation: Pioneer control efficiency frameworks, meticulously analysing their impact on risk reduction versus growth, and championing innovative solutions that balance security with seamless customer experience.

  • Influence Strategic Decisions with Data: Act as a key strategic partner to product, engineering, product risk, and compliance stakeholders, leveraging deep data insights to influence critical decisions around regional controls and risk strategies.

  • Enhance FinCrime Risk Management: Collaborate closely with our FinCrime teams to integrate a regional lens into global risk engines, ensuring local risk typologies are effectively monitored and managed, thereby strengthening our overall financial crime prevention capabilities.

This role will give you the opportunity to:

  • Shape the Future of Risk & Compliance: Choose your path to impact by leading critical initiatives that define how Wise approaches risk controls and regulatory compliance globally. You'll have the autonomy to create a vision and drive its execution, with feedback from a diverse network of smart, curious people.

  • Lead and Inspire: Grow as a leader within Product Analytics, mentoring and inspiring not only your immediate team but also influencing best practices across Wise's broader analytical community.

  • Gain Unparalleled Exposure: Get amazing exposure to the full breadth and depth of our product ecosystem, working alongside multi-disciplinary teams of amazing, smart, and dedicated product analysts, engineers, product managers, researchers, and designers.

  • Drive Tangible Mission Impact: The innovative solutions and insights you identify will be key to Wise reaching future millions of customers, redefining how payments work internationally at scale, and ensuring our mission of "Money Without Borders" is delivered securely and compliantly.

Ideal candidate would have:

  • At least 5+ years of experience in a data analytics role, with a significant focus on risk, controls, or compliance within the banking or financial industry.

  • A strong analytical mind combined with sharp product intuition, capable of translating complex data into compelling narratives and strategic recommendations.

  • Advanced technical skill-set including expert-level SQL, Python, and proficiency with BI tools.

  • Proven experience working effectively with technical teams (PMs, engineers, analysts) in a fast-paced, data-driven, and complex environment with limited guidance.

  • Deep understanding of events data platforms such as Mixpanel, Google Analytics, Amplitude, or similar.

  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and align diverse teams towards common goals.

  • A "Hustler-mentality" – you are proactive, can take work beyond the analysis, and consistently drive initiatives to completion.

Good to have:

  • Direct experience in Financial Crime and/or Customer Onboarding domains.

  • Knowledge of the broader fintech ecosystem and its unique challenges.

  • Familiarity with data orchestration and version control utilities like Airflow, GitHub, or DBT.

  • Experience working with user-facing products and their associated data.
