Overview of the role:
Lifebroker is dedicated to simplifying the process of finding the right life insurance for Australians. We leverage technology and expertise to empower our customers with transparent information and personalised solutions. Join our collaborative and innovative team in our awesome Melbourne office (with flexible hybrid working options) as our next Lead Frontend Engineer and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our customer-facing platforms.
Working closely with the CTO and Development Manager, you will lead the technologies and practices of Lifebroker's Frontend development, driving the creation of intuitive and high-performance user experiences that empower Australians to make informed decisions about their financial security. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a new platform from the ground up, influence our modern tech stack, and foster a culture of innovation and continuous learning within the team.
YOUR KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Lead on front-end tooling to increase team productivity and enforce coding standards: Drive efficiency within the frontend team by implementing and maintaining effective tooling and ensuring adherence to high-quality coding standards.
- Design and develop responsive, performant user interfaces using React and TypeScript: Architect and build robust and user-friendly interfaces leveraging your deep expertise in React and TypeScript.
- Implement Micro Frontends architecture to create independent, maintainable application modules. Design and implement a scalable frontend architecture using micro frontends to enable independent development and deployment of application features.
- Apply Atomic Design principles to create reusable UI components that improve consistency and ease of maintenance across the application: Establish and enforce a component-based design system using Atomic Design principles to ensure UI consistency and simplify maintenance.
- Participate in code reviews and technical discussions, ensuring adherence to best practices and high-quality code standards: Actively participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback and ensuring the team adheres to best practices and high-quality coding standards.
- Mentor team members and help improve team proficiency in frontend technologies: Provide guidance and mentorship to frontend team members, fostering their technical growth and improving the overall proficiency of the team
Essential:
- Architecture: Contribute your architectural vision and expertise to the design and development of new features and platforms, ensuring scalability, maintainability, and performance. You'll be instrumental in defining our frontend technology stack and best practices for our greenfield development efforts
- Atomic Design: Experience with Atomic Design methodology for building UI components
- TypeScript (advanced): A strong command of TypeScript for building scalable, maintainable applications
- React: Deep understanding of React and its ecosystem, including hooks, context, and state management libraries like Redux or React Query
- Micro Frontends: Practical experience with or a strong understanding of decomposing front-end into smaller, modular parts that can be developed, deployed, and scaled independently
- Familiarity with Agile workflows and tools like Jira
- Strong team player: collaborating with backend developers and wider team
- Can-Do Attitude: A proactive and open-minded approach to learning new frameworks, and willing to step into backend as needed
- Adaptability: Open-mindedness toward frameworks and technologies. You will be given room to experiment with technologies that suit the project, so a willingness to try new ideas is essential
- Collaboration: Strong communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and contribute to technical discussions on architecture, tooling, and best practices
- Agility: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, iterative environment, delivering new features and bug fixes in two-week sprints
Desirable:
- Backend Experience: Exposure to back-end technologies (like AWS Lambda in TypeScript) to understand the full stack and contribute to discussions on full-stack architecture.
- Prior experience working with Salesforce (preferred) or other CRM platforms.
