We exist to help investors make more informed and successful investment decisions. We achieve this by creating, curating and publishing high-quality investment content and data through our two platforms: Livewire Markets and Market Index.
- Livewire Markets is Australia’s leading platform for expert investment analysis, featuring insights from over 500 respected investment professionals.
- Market Index is Australia’s top source for comprehensive market data and ASX information, covering listed companies, ETFs, LICs, and REITs.
With over 1 million investors engaging with our content every month, we’re a fast-growing force in financial markets content.
Job DescriptionWhat we’re looking for
We’re on the lookout for a passionate, self-starting Lead Software Engineer to join our dynamic and close-knit engineering team. If you love solving complex problems, enjoy autonomy, and have a keen interest in both technology and the financial markets, then this role could be your perfect next (or career-defining) step.
In this role, you’ll:
- Help architect and build the next generation of Australia’s most visited stock market platform, Market Index, alongside Livewire - our fast-growing investor content platform.
- Play a central role in re-platforming legacy systems onto modern, scalable infrastructure using the right tools for the job (not just the flashy ones).
- Build and shape high-performance APIs, unified frontend systems, and scalable backend services, enabling millions of monthly investor interactions.
- Work on real production applications of AI and LLMs for investment data extraction, content summarisation, and intelligent automation.
- Mentor engineers, contribute to technical leadership, and help define engineering standards and strategy across a lean, high-impact team.
- Influence product direction through close collaboration with product and design. You’ll be part of shaping the roadmap, not just executing it.
Who are we looking for?
- A lead or principal-level full stack engineer with strong hands-on experience in Node.js and TypeScript/JavaScript, and solid frontend experience - we use Vue.js, but if you’re coming from React or a similar framework that’s okay too!
- Cloud/AWS experience is a must have as you will help manage our infrastructure!
- Someone excited to be a technical 2IC to the CTO, and take ownership of strategic decisions and technical direction.
- A pragmatic problem solver who favours clean, elegant solutions over over-engineering.
- An engineer who thrives in a fast-moving, product-first environment, with a genuine interest in building tools that empower investors.
- Bonus points if you’ve worked in fintech, data-rich environments, or high-growth product teams.
Why you’ll love working with us
- We’re profitable, founder-led, and independently owned. No VC pressure, just a clear mandate to build valuable, enduring technology.
- Engineering sits at the core of our product and business strategy, not as a service function.
- You’ll be joining at a pivotal time: we’re replacing legacy systems, launching new features, and building the future of our platforms from the ground up.
- You’ll be part of a senior, tight-knit team where autonomy, impact, and quality are valued above red tape or fluff.
- You’ll help create the platform that unlocks new revenue opportunities, supports 1M+ investors, and enables the future of financial media in Australia.
Perks
- Flexible Work: Hybrid work environment: split your time between home and the office (or potentially work remotely).
- Learning & Development: Dedicated budget and time to grow your skills.
- If you're ready to build, innovate, and make an impact, we'd love to hear from you!
- Team Events: Regular activities: trivia nights, escape rooms, group runs, and more.
- Supportive Culture: Work in a diverse, collaborative team where your contributions matter.
If you’re ready to join a company where innovation meets impact and where your engineering skills can help shape the future of investment insights, we’d love to hear from you.
