About the Team
The Atlassian Design System (ADS) team is leading the evolution of our design system, striving to enhance the craft of design both at Atlassian and within the broader design systems industry.
Our team is responsible for steering the direction and implementation of Atlassian's largest brand refresh across our products, benefiting millions of customers worldwide. This initiative encompasses UI Foundations, Components, and Accessibility. We are also pioneers in the tools and engagement strategies that drive high adoption rates among designers and developers, ultimately enhancing their work satisfaction and increasing the quality of customer experiences.
What You'll Do
Reporting to the Head of Design for Atlassian Design Systems, you will support the systemisation of our visual refresh vision as we roll it out to modernise and transform Atlassian's UI design experience, powered by the Atlassian Design System. You will work with a director level IC and other design leads to solve complex challenges at scale and help drive the delivery and maturity of our UI Foundations.

  • Craft and Communication: Influence the implementation and systemisation of the Visual Refresh vision across multiple products/apps, ensuring high adoption rates and delivering tangible value to customers with your design craft skills and leadership.
  • Collaborate with Makers: Work closely with designers and developers to ensure our solutions for our UI Foundations are meeting their needs across the UI solution, tooling, figma libraries and documentation/guidance which lives on atlassian.design.
  • Lead craft delivery end to end: Make a company-wide impact by seeing a concept through from inception to detailed delivery, empowering thousands of designers and developers to create exceptional software with the solutions we create.
  • Collaborate Across Teams: Partner with other Lead and Principal designers to advance our design harmonization efforts and connect back to ADS's mission.
  • Influence Roadmap: Work closely with Engineering Leads and cross-functional partners to shape our roadmap and identify key opportunities.
  • Set High Standards for Design Quality: Utilize your expertise in visual, interaction design and motion design, to elevate the team's craft quality and educate others.
  • Mentor and Inspire: Foster growth within the team by mentoring others and setting a clear direction.
  • Passion for Design Systems: Share your enthusiasm for design systems through leadership, contributing to our mission of creating world-class design solutions and beautiful UI designs for our customers.


What You'll Bring:

  • Experience: 9+ years in design systems and product design, with extensive experience in enterprise or other complex organizations.
  • Expertise in Complex Systems: A technical acumen in design systems, adept at navigating designer and developer workflows, with a passion for systems and architecture.
  • Developer Knowledge/Skills: Ability to collaborate effectively with principal and lead engineers to create solutions that enhance quality and productivity.
  • User-Centered Design: A strength in creating clarity, guiding stakeholders and leaders, while balancing the needs of makers and customers.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Excellent visual and verbal communication abilities to articulate design rationale and foster a culture of continuous feedback from design executives to junior team members.
  • Collaboration Skills: Proven experience partnering with other lead and senior designers as you operate in a highly collaborative manner.
