The summary above was generated by AI

Neara is a high-growth technology company, backed by some of the world’s leading venture capital and private equity investors, including EQT and Partners Group. Neara has developed a software platform that builds sophisticated, engineering-grade 3D digital models of critical infrastructure, delivered under a software-as-a-service model. To date, Neara has primarily focused on modelling electricity grids but is also expanding rapidly into other infrastructure verticals such as telecommunications and rail.

Neara’s software platform has been adopted by infrastructure owners and operators around the world to solve some of the greatest challenges facing the industry. Neara’s platform delivers solutions across the entire asset life cycle, from the design and construction of new networks to access renewable energy generation, to high-value problem statements in asset management, through to the impact of climate change and extreme weather on the reliability and availability of critical commodities such as electricity.

Recognised as one of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential Companies of 2024, our vision is to change how the world designs, builds and operates critical infrastructure. After achieving close to 90% market share in Australia and New Zealand, Neara’s primary growth focus is now the Americas, the UK and Europe, where a significant majority of our revenue growth is now derived.

We are looking for a seasoned Lead Software Engineer who excels in steering teams and is backed by a robust foundation in algorithms, data structures, SOLID principles, and object-oriented programming. Our ideal candidate thrives in a dual role - contributing individually while also dedicating time to mentorship, shaping junior engineers into accomplished professionals. As a key player, you will define optimal team structures, enforce best practices and delegate workload distribution to prevent burnouts, foster inter-department collaboration, and enhance overall organisational synchronicity.

Our training is fast-paced, designed to enable you to work independently and confidently not only with the software but the wider company. Joining Neara means tackling real-world challenges head-on, leading your team on an upward trajectory, and immersing yourself in a work environment characterised by high-paced innovation, transparent communication, and impactful contributions.

Some of the things you will contribute to:

  • Master design elements and tooling, encompassing assemblies, environments, formulas, and Finite Element Analysis (FEA)

  • Write production-quality code to support our engineering-grade models and 3D visualisations

  • Build simulation engines that scale across millions of assets

  • Optimise and debug rendering and memory performance

  • Develop algorithms to generate accurate models from imperfect data

  • Develop data structures that can perform in real-time with user interaction on large underlying data sets

  • Work with a variety of data sources, including LiDAR, aerial photography & photogrammetry

  • Work on real-time collaboration & live update algorithms

  • Serve as a strong delivery role model and bring clarity to ambiguous projects

  • Lift the technical bar and drive high-quality engineering practices across the engineering department to ensure high-quality, correct code output

  • Lead projects and mentor both junior and senior engineers in hybrid teams

Some attributes we highly regard:

  • Algorithms and data structures

  • Proficient in JavaScript/TypeScript/HTML/CSS/SASS

  • Proficient in one of Python, Java, Kotlin, C++, Rust

  • Familiarity with Dartcode and FEA experience is highly desirable

  • Domain experience within the geospatial/utility space is a plus

  • Mathematical reasoning ability - Mechanical/Civil engineering knowledge a plus

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field

Some of the benefits we have on offer:

  • Competitive salary & meaningful ESOP

  • Fully flexible working arrangements with a well-stocked office in Redfern

  • Regular office events

  • The real benefit is working on a genuinely complex, innovative and industry-leading product, making a genuine difference in the world around us
