ABOUT THE ROLE 

 

The Legal & Compliance Specialist (12-Month Fixed-Term Contract) plays a key role in providing legal and compliance support to the ANZ organisation.

Working closely with the Head of Legal & Compliance, this role supports proactive identification, assessment and management of legal and compliance risk, contributes to business‑critical legal reviews, and helps enable compliant, efficient and commercially‑sound outcomes for the ANZ business.

The role operates as a trusted business partner, combining legal judgement and compliance expertise with hands‑on project management, process optimisation and responsible use of AI to improve the effectiveness, efficiency and scalability of Legal & Compliance operations, working closely with the Head of Legal & Compliance, APAC and global colleagues.

WHAT YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBILE FOR?
  • Support the implementation of legal and compliance training, communication and monitoring frameworks to promote a strong compliance culture across the ANZ business.
  • Confidently deliver in‑person and virtual compliance training, as well as ongoing coaching, guidance and practical support to business stakeholders.
  • Support the operation of offshore compliance review teams by providing clear ANZ‑specific compliance guidance, responding to queries, and suggesting practical process and efficiency improvements.
  • Monitor changes to medical technology industry codes and relevant legal and regulatory requirements and assist with translating these into practical, locally‑relevant guidance.
  • Act as a Legal & Compliance business partner to the ANZ business, supporting compliant interactions with customers and third parties.
  • Review legal and commercial contracts and support business functions, including commercial eams, in assessing change management opportunities and improvements to legal processes (including contracting).
  • Support the review of promotional and external‑facing materials to identify legal and compliance risks and support appropriate mitigation.
  • Partner with cross‑functional teams (including Quality, Regulatory, Finance, Supply Chain and IT) to provide legal and compliance input under the direction of the Head of Legal & Compliance.
  • Support Legal & Compliance projects and global and regional initiatives impacting ANZ, including collaboration with APAC and global colleagues across time zones where required.
  • Contribute to process improvement, change management and the operationalisation of AI‑enabled and technology‑supported tools within Legal & Compliance.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB)
  • 2 – 7+ years post admission experience
  • Admitted as a lawyer in Australia (or eligible for a practicing certificate)
  • Demonstrated experience advising regulated industries either in private practice or in-house
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks and awareness of when escalation is required
  • Practical experience with or demonstrated transferable skills to enable:
  • Compliance program enhancement and operation
  • Contract drafting, negotiation and risk assessment
  • Drafting and interpreting policies, procedures and internal controls
  • Interfacing with internal and external regulatory, auditors and industry bodies
  • Experience in the healthcare industry (Medical Device experience) is highly regarded but not essential
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
