Job Description

An exciting opportunity has become available for a Legal Counsel to join our team in Sydney. You will be responsible for providing legal advice and support to all areas of the business with a focus on development, franchise and operations under the guidance of senior lawyers and reporting to Senior Legal Counsel. This position provides astute legal advice with a focus on franchise law, development and regulatory compliance.

This role will be based in Sydney in the Accor Corporate Office.

Getting to know the role and your responsibilities

  • Providing legal advice and support to all areas of the business with a particular focus on the franchise, development, commercial and regulatory compliance teams
  • Preparing, reviewing, negotiating and drafting amendments to commercial agreements, franchise and development agreements, term sheets and associated documentation
  • Assisting the business in its compliance with legal requirements in particular with respect to the franchising code, data privacy and consumer law
  • Review of marketing materials, provide advice on competition and consumer laws
  • Preparation of standard form agreements, precedents and policies for all areas of the business
  • Provide ongoing in-house legal compliance training and information updates to the business
  • Providing assistance to senior lawyers on project work, training programs and other matters as and when required
  • Assisting to establish and maintain new and effective processes

Qualifications

What we need from you

  • 4 - 5 years PQE
  • Experience in a top tier or mid-tier law firm would be highly regarded
  • Prior experience in franchising would be highly regarded
  • Although no specific prior knowledge is required for this role, the candidate must be keen to learn and develop skills in a variety of legal areas impacting the business
  • Strong knowledge and demonstrated experience in the areas of commercial and contract law
  • Knowledge of Competition and Consumer Laws
  • Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to multi-task and meet strict deadlines
  • An ability to understand and navigate complex stakeholder environments
  • Strong personal integrity
  • Good interpersonal skills with ability to communicate with all levels of the business
  • A relevant tertiary qualification with current practicing certificate for New South Wales or ability to practice in New South Wales.
