The Legal Counsel will draft and negotiate contracts, provide legal advice, assist with corporate governance, and improve policies, while collaborating with various teams across the Asia Pacific region.
Team Overview
The Legal Counsel role sits within a team of six legal professionals in IMC's Sydney office and will work closely with domestic and international business partners and colleagues to support IMC's businesses throughout the Asia Pacific region. The Sydney-based team also works with Legal teams based in the IMC Group's offices in Amsterdam, Chicago and Mumbai. The Legal team is involved in an exciting range of corporate and commercial, employment, financial markets, technology and intellectual property work across the Asia Pacific Region.
The successful candidate will report directly to the General Counsel, Asia Pacific and assist in providing legal advice and meeting the company secretarial needs of IMC in the APAC region. The Legal team works closely with the Technology and Trading teams together with HR, Corporate Development and our Risk & Compliance teams to drive IMC's business throughout the Asia Pacific region.

Your Core Responsibilities:
- Draft, negotiate, and review commercial contracts across technology, trading, employment, event and other business arrangements.
- Advise on potential risks in contractual and propose risk mitigation strategies; provide creative and legally sound solutions for resolution of disputes with commercial business partners.
- Research and provide advice on various emerging issues including technology, IP, data privacy and employment law.
- Review existing policies and procedures of IMC, identify areas for continuous improvement; formulate and draft policies and procedures, as required.
- Assist with corporate governance, including preparing for Board meetings of IMC's corporate and charitable organisations in the APAC region.
Your Skills and Experience:
- Candidate must have tertiary qualifications in Law, top academic credentials, and be admitted as a solicitor in a common law jurisdiction.
- Law firm experience with clients in the financial services or technology sectors preferred
- Able to work independently under tight deadlines, and possess excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Superior management skills and business judgment with a capacity to make decisions and give advice, which demonstrates an understanding of overall business objectives and the risks/rewards of each situation.
- Strong research and writing skills, and a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a non-legal audience, are required.
- Experience working in Asia and Asian language skills are highly desirable.
