About the Role

Say goodbye to billable hours and timesheets! Due to growth within the firm, BDO’s in-house legal team is looking to recruit a full-time commercial lawyer.

This is an exciting opportunity to learn from an experienced legal team across a broad range of practice areas. This role will suit lawyers looking to maintain a broad commercial practice and who are interested in being a trusted legal adviser to the firm.

You will deal with a broad range of legal matters, and your responsibilities include:

  • Focus on drafting and advising on various client and commercial contracts; enhance your ability to negotiate and manage complex agreements.

  • Advising on and assisting with various legal matters including privacy and other regulatory issues, employment law matters and investigations, disputes and litigation (prior experience in these areas is not essential); deepen your understanding of various legal principles and enhance your ability to provide commercial and well-informed advice.

  • Working on special projects and initiatives; build firm-wide stakeholder engagement

  • Updating the business on legal developments and providing training; enhance your ability to translate complex legal concepts into practical guidance

  • Company secretarial support; gain exposure to corporate governance

Do you have the following?

You enjoy working in a friendly, collaborative and high-performing environment. You have commercial acumen and a strong work ethic, as well as the following:

  • Bachelor of Laws (or Juris Doctor) and eligible to practice in an Australian State or Territory.

  • Likely suit someone with 4-6 years PQE (private practice experience will be highly regarded).

  • An interest in contracts/commercial law, maintaining a broad practice and developing new skills.

  • Research and analysis: ability to interpret the law and develop practical and commercial solutions.

  • Self-development: commitment to developing your own technical knowledge and expertise and legal skills.
