Our Legal Informatics Team

The Legal Informatics team at Gilbert + Tobin specialises in the application of technology to complex and time critical legal matters. Our work enables the handling of large volumes of electronic evidence in disputes and investigations, enabling efficient due diligence in high-profile deals and navigating bespoke datasets. Our expert application of market-leading technologies enables a scalable and secure approach to every legal matter, giving our clients a strategic advantage.

 

About the role

We are currently seeking a Legal Informatics Senior Manager to oversee the delivery of our most complex electronic discovery, investigations, document management, data analytics and legal technology matters. The role combines senior technical leadership, people leadership and responsibility for the consistent delivery and development of Legal Informatics services. Key responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing a portfolio of large scale, complex and time critical matters, ensuring delivery is technically sound, defensible, efficient and appropriately quality assured;
  • Acting as a senior technical adviser to partners, lawyers and clients on eDiscovery, investigations, document review, data analytics and technology-enabled legal workflows;
  • Leading the design and use of Relativity, including the aiR suite, analytics, advanced workflows and integrations, and ensuring appropriate validation and quality assurance;
  • Owning and developing Legal Informatics best practice workflows, technical standards and quality controls across document review, processing, productions, data rooms and bespoke datasets;
  • Evaluating and implementing fit-for-purpose AI, automation and legal technology workflows, with a focus on repeatability, auditability, security and practical legal outcomes;
  • Leading Managers, Specialists and Analysts on complex matters, including work allocation, technical review, coaching and capability development;
  • Overseeing technical delivery for Court/Commissions/Inquiries and other critical legal events, including escalation and risk management; and
  • Scoping significant engagements, monitoring delivery and financial performance, managing key stakeholders and contributing to the continued development of Legal Informatics services.

This role is open to candidates based in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.

 

About you

As our successful candidate you should be able to demonstrate substantial experience leading high profile and technically challenging discovery, regulatory, investigation and transactional matters. You will be a trusted senior adviser who combines deep technical capability with strong judgement, people leadership and commercial awareness. You will help translate complex legal requirements into practical, scalable and defensible technology solutions while developing the capability of the broader Legal Informatics team. In addition, you will have:

  • At least 8 years’ experience in eDiscovery, legal technology, legal informatics or a closely related technical discipline
  • Deep understanding of the eDiscovery process, defensibility, quality assurance, data handling and the risks associated with complex legal matters
  • Demonstrated experience leading multiple large-scale matters or portfolios and resolving complex technical and delivery issues
  • Superior stakeholder management and communication skills, including experience advising senior lawyers, partners or clients
  • Demonstrated people leadership, including developing Managers and technical specialists and maintaining high delivery standards
  • Strong project and commercial management skills, including scoping, prioritisation, resourcing, budgeting and management of delivery risk

Other preferred skills, qualifications and certifications include:

  • Holding a Relativity Certified Administrator (RCA) qualification and/or advanced Relativity certifications
  • Advanced experience designing Relativity workflows, Dynamic Objects, Integration Points and applications
  • Experience leading the implementation of AI-assisted review, analytics and other emerging legal technology workflows
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and deployment
  • Strong use of JIRA and Confluence for project, operational and knowledge management
  • Command-line and PowerShell scripting capability
  • SQL scripting, data analysis and data transformation
  • Python scripting, API implementation and workflow automation
  • Experience evaluating, designing or overseeing integrations and bespoke legal technology solutions
  • Ability to lead calmly through competing priorities, high pressure matters and material technical or delivery risks.
