Compensation:

At Rokt we practice transparency in career paths and compensation, which is why we have a well-defined career ladder with transparent compensation and clear career paths based on competency and ability. 

Target total compensation for this role ranges from $435 000 - $515 000 - made up of a fixed annual salary of $285 000 - $315 000 (including superannuation) and an employee equity plan grant component. In addition, you will receive world-class employee benefits.

The Role:

As a Machine Learning Engineering Manager at Rokt, you will combine people leadership with hands-on technical expertise to drive the next generation of ML products at Rokt. You will guide a team of high-calibre Applied Scientists in solving complex ML problems at scale - leading the cutting-edge ML research and production deployment of high-impact models which advance: recommender systems, conversion optimisation, user experience enhancement, and multi-task learning architectures. Ultimately, your models will help power over 6.5 billion+ targeted recommendations per year. 

Responsibilities

  • Own the research, design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance of machine learning systems and services at Rokt.
  • Lead and inspire a team of autonomous ML engineers and applied scientists, cultivating a culture of ownership, innovation, and continuous learning.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Data, and other Engineering teams to translate business problems into practical ML solutions that drive measurable impact.
  • Champion best practices in ML research, experimentation, monitoring, and responsible AI, sharing knowledge through tech talks and mentorship.
  • Remain hands-on: contribute production-quality code, conduct design reviews, and set technical standards that raise the bar across Rokt.
  • Provide leadership on complex technical issues and set standards for coding and architectural best practices.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of industry experience building production-grade ML systems, with 4+ years leading engineering teams.
  • PhD or Master’s in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or related field with specialization in ML, AI, or Information Retrieval.
  • Deep expertise in at least two:
    • Reinforcement Learning (Bandits, Policy Optimization)
    • Multi-Task Learning & Mixture of Experts (MMOE, PLE, DCN)
    • Deep Learning Architectures (Transformers, Graph Neural Networks)
    • Bayesian Methods & Probabilistic Modeling
    • ML for Ads, E-commerce, or Two-Sided Marketplaces (big plus!)
  • Proven ability to drive impact across multiple teams and organisation as a hand-on technical leader

Bonus points if you are familiar with any of the following architectures or have experience with the models mentioned in this benchmark: DCNV2, MMOE, Deep & Wide, ESMM, xDeepFM, and GDCN.s
