About the team

We are seeking an experienced economist or public-policy professional to join the Analysis and Policy (A&P) area of the RBA's Note Issue Department.

The Analysis and Policy section develops evidence-based policies to support the Bank’s strategic priorities in relation to issuing secure and reliable banknotes, and shaping the future of money. We conduct research on cash use, access and acceptance to understand how the cash ecosystem is evolving and to identify potential policy measures to support cash as a viable means of payment. We also facilitate public-sector coordination on cash initiatives, working closely with Council of Financial Regulator (CFR) agencies and the ACCC.

A&P is leading a number of high-priority workstreams to address challenges in cash distribution.

About the role

As a manager in A&P, you will:

  • Provide economic and policy advice that supports priority topics and contributes to NI meeting its strategic goals, including the Bank’s strategic priority to support access to physical cash.

  • Communicate effectively to relevant internal and external stakeholders in support of the Bank’s functions and objectives.

  • Provide coaching and development opportunities for analysts, to support them in achieving their goals.

  • Contribute to the broader strategic direction and leadership of the Note Issue Department, sharing accountability with other leaders for overall performance of deliverables and outcomes.

  • Foster an open and inclusive culture to enable your team to deliver high quality and impactful work.

About you

  • Excellent critical thinking skills to guide and produce targeted analysis on complex policy issues.

  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

  • Demonstrated people leadership skills and ability to nurture a culture of trust and collaboration in line with the Bank’s open and dynamic ambition. This includes the ability to develop your team to deliver results and build skills over time.

  • An ability to write clearly and succinctly, with the purpose and intended audience in mind.

  • Strong work planning, prioritisation and organisation skills.

  • An ability and willingness build and maintain a culture of trust and collaboration.

  • Have a relevant tertiary qualification, such as in economics, finance, public policy or statistics.
