Your Team

The Quantitative Analyst Group is part of the wider Clearing Risk Team within the Risk Division of ASX. The Clearing Risk Team is responsible for ensuring that both ASX clearing houses have sufficient capital and liquidity resources to safely manage the potential default of one or more of our Clearing Participants while preventing contagion to the broader financial market. The Quantitative Analyst Group plays an important role in this by researching and developing quantitative financial risk models to quantitative assess the financial risks faced by the ASX. The team works very closely with other teams within Clearing Risk, in a particular the Quantitative Development, Model Validation and Risk Control teams.

Your responsibilities

The ASX is embarking on a project to replace the existing exchange-traded derivatives (ETD) clearing system and migrating ETD data to a cloud-based platform. These changes will impact the models, tools and processes used by the Quantitative Analyst group to measure and mitigate the potential financial risks faced by the ASX. The ASX is therefore looking for a highly skilled and experienced Quantitative Analyst/Developer to join the Clearing Risk Quantitative Modelling Team in a senior role to lead the following activities:

  • Identify and prioritise the key Clearing Risk models that will be impacted by ETD clearing and data system replacement.
  • Document what changes will need to be implemented to allow the current models to continue to function in their current capacity.
  • Develop and document a plan to rigorously test all changes.
  • Lead the changes and testing to safely migrate and test key Quantitative Risk models to the new systems.

Your experience and qualifications

This role will require strong quantitative technical abilities, problem solving, stakeholder management and communication skills. The successful candidate will need to be able to identify issues, propose solutions and discuss complex concepts with a broad range of stakeholders. In particular, the ability to represent quantitative models in a clear and simple form that can be understood by stakeholders from business and technology is essential

Must have

  • At least 7 years’ experience as a market risk quantitative analyst/developer in a clearing house, banking, finance or related environment.
  • Tertiary Qualifications in a quantitative discipline (mathematics, statistics, engineering, quantitative finance, etc.).
  • Knowledge of exchange traded and OTC products, derivatives pricing, and market data and conventions.
  • Demonstrated ability to design pragmatic solutions to complex financial problems.
  • Demonstrated experience in R and/or Python, working with large datasets.
  • Excellent communication skills, technical documentation skills and ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating effectively with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders within and across different functional teams, and ability to deliver to deadlines.
  • Curiosity and strong problem-solving skills, being self-motivated, highly resourceful and receptive to constructive feedback.

Nice to have

  • Experience in Central Counterparty Clearing Risk.
  • Experience with designing, building, testing and deploying code into production.
  • Experience working in an Agile environment.
  • Familiarity with Confluence and JIRA.

We make hiring decisions based on your skills, capabilities and experience, and how you’ll help us to live our values. We encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet all the criteria of this role.

If you need any adjustments during the application or interview process to help you present your best self, please let us know at [email protected].

At ASX Group, our diverse workforce is essential to build and maintain a fair and dynamic marketplace. We support flexible working and offer hybrid working options. Even if our roles are advertised as full-time, we encourage you to apply if you are interested in part-time or other flexible working arrangements.

We will arrange for successful candidates to have background checks, including reference and police checks, completed as part of the on-boarding process.

To be considered for this position, candidates must be legally authorised to work in Australia on a permanent basis without any restrictions.
