We have delivered stand-alone and grid-tie photovoltaic and solar thermal projects, ‘water to wire’ services on mini and micro-hydro projects, geothermal power plants and generation facilities.

The Role

We’re seeking to engage a Manager - Energy to join our team in Sydney. In this role you’ll be responsible for coordinating the activities of the market group and leading the team to deliver results at the local office level while providing input into the design, review and delivery of Energy Market and State Business plans. You’ll be responsible for ensuring operational and technical excellence and performance of the Local Energy team with the effect of growing the function through optimal people, commercial, business development, client relationship management and project performance.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Effective planning and management of the performance of the local team in line with the Energy Market Sector and State plans and in support of SMEC’s vision and values;
  • Undertaking client relationship management and business development activities in line with the Energy Market Sector and State plans;
  • Providing project governance and project management in the local office to achieve reliable project performance in terms of sophistication, timeliness and quality;
  • With support from State Sector Manager or National Manager, providing leadership and development opportunities to the employees located in the local office to ensure cohesion, optimal performance, resourcing, retention and professional development;
  • Providing support to the State Sector Manager or National Manager and manage activity to transition regional based business model to a national service model;
  • Effectively managing and leading a team of nominated direct reports to ensure optimal performance, resourcing, retention and professional development.

About You

Suitable applicants will be/have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in appropriate discipline (essential)
  • Post graduate qualifications in appropriate discipline (highly regarded)
  • Project Management qualification (desirable)
  • 10-15+ years industry experience managing multi-disciplinary Energy Projects successfully, to budget and client specifications
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in managing & leading a team effectively for performance and cohesion;
  • Detailed knowledge of the relevant Industry Standards and the application of these standards;
  • Thorough understanding of the local external Market and skills to translate this knowledge to projects and people;
  • High level communication skills, including negotiating and resolving commercial, technical and people matters;
