Two positions available: Brisbane and Sydney

  • Use your credit and commercial expertise to help business customers navigate complex financial difficulty and restructuring situations.
  • Bring strong credit foundations and further develop advanced credit, structuring, negotiation and problem-solving capability within a supportive, specialist team.
  • Take ownership of complex customer strategies from assessment and decision through to execution and outcome.
  • Make a genuine difference to customers and communities while balancing sustainable customer outcomes with sound risk management.

Do work that matters

It's an exciting time to be joining our Commercial Banking team. In this role, you'll work with domestic small to medium-sized enterprises with commercial facilities ranging from $1.5m to $20m originated by Commercial Banking. The role also includes credit monitoring and oversight, reporting, implementation of policy, operational risk, and providing guidance across Risk teams and Business Bankers.

You'll bring strong credit and financial analysis capability and further develop advanced credit and structuring skills, working through complex customer circumstances where the right path isn't always obvious. You'll undertake sensitive and sometimes challenging negotiations and deepen your expertise across turnaround, financial restructuring and insolvency.

This is not simply about assessing a situation and making a decision. You'll take ownership of customer strategies through to execution, maintaining momentum, adapting as circumstances change and demonstrating the tenacity to see complex matters through to an appropriate outcome.

Our mandate is to bring our purpose and values to life, while offering our people flexible working options and the support they need to continue to learn, develop and aspire.

See yourself in our team

As a Manager in Group Credit Structuring, you'll work directly with business customers experiencing financial difficulty to understand what's changed, assess their financial and commercial position, identify available options and determine an appropriate path forward.

No two situations are the same. You'll draw on your credit capability, financial analysis, commercial judgement, curiosity and problem-solving skills to navigate complex and evolving circumstances.

You'll balance customer outcomes with the Bank's credit risk, commercial, regulatory and compliance considerations. Depending on the circumstances, this may involve supporting a customer through recovery, turnaround or financial restructuring, or navigating more complex situations where returning to a sustainable position may not be achievable.

You'll do more than recommend a course of action. You'll own customer strategies end-to-end, moving from analysis and decision-making into action and demonstrating the tenacity to overcome obstacles and see complex matters through.

In this role, you'll:
  • Engage directly with business customers experiencing financial difficulty, taking their individual circumstances into account.
  • Conduct robust financial and credit analysis to understand each customer's position and identify realistic options.
  • Develop and execute customer strategies across rehabilitation, turnaround, financial restructuring and, where appropriate, insolvency or exit.
  • Lead sensitive and sometimes challenging customer and stakeholder negotiations.
  • Exercise sound credit judgement in complex and evolving situations where there may not be a straightforward solution.
  • Take ownership of agreed strategies from decision through to execution, maintaining momentum and adapting the approach as circumstances evolve.
  • Balance appropriate customer outcomes with sound credit risk management, commercial considerations and regulatory and compliance obligations.
  • Provide credit monitoring, reporting, policy implementation and guidance to Risk teams and business partners.
  • Share insights, influence stakeholders and constructively challenge thinking to support better customer and risk outcomes.
We're interested in hearing from people who:

You're an experienced credit, banking, restructuring or insolvency professional who combines strong analytical capability with commercial judgement and genuine care for customers.

You already bring solid credit fundamentals and are looking to further develop your expertise in advanced credit, structuring, negotiation, turnaround and financial restructuring.

You'll ideally:

  • Bring demonstrated experience across business or commercial credit, relationship banking, restructuring or insolvency.
  • Have strong credit assessment and financial analysis capability, with the judgement to assess complex or evolving customer circumstances and make sound risk decisions.
  • Have experience managing customer relationships, preferably including customers requiring turnaround, financial assistance or restructuring.
  • Demonstrate care through compassionate, empathetic and supportive conversations, while having the courage to be firm, fair and pragmatic when circumstances require it.
  • Bring tenacity and accountability, with the ability to turn decisions into outcomes and see complex matters through.
  • Be curious and adaptable, willing to challenge assumptions, explore different options and make decisions when the answer isn't immediately clear.
  • Communicate complex issues clearly and confidently, both verbally and in writing.
  • Build trusted relationships and effectively engage, influence and challenge a broad range of stakeholders.

What you'll gain

GCS provides an opportunity to work on customer situations that can be significantly more complex than those encountered in traditional credit or relationship management roles.  It's an opportunity to build on strong credit foundations and develop deeper capability in credit judgement, structuring, negotiation, turnaround and financial restructuring while seeing firsthand how those decisions translate into real customer and risk outcomes.

You'll join a team that values diversity of thought, constructive challenge and sharing expertise. You'll be encouraged to speak up, learn from complex situations and contribute to better outcomes for customers, communities and the Bank.

If you've built strong credit foundations and want to take the next step into more complex customer situations, developing advanced credit and structuring capability while taking genuine ownership for outcomes, we'd love to hear from you.

If you're already part of the Commonwealth Bank Group (including Bankwest, x15ventures), you'll need to apply through Sidekick to submit a valid application. We’re keen to support you with the next step in your career.
