About the Role

Join our dynamic and forward-thinking Audit & Assurance Quality (AAQ) team as a Sustainability Assurance Manager / Senior Manager. 

In this pivotal role, you will lead the development, implementation, and continual enhancement of BDO’s sustainability assurance methodology in alignment with Australian Standards on Sustainability Assurance Engagements (ASSA). This is an opportunity to shape the future of assurance in a rapidly evolving field, while supporting practitioners across the audit practice with your expertise. 

Working as part of a team, this role involves the supervision and development of staff members. The role also includes significant involvement in working with the AAQ management team and developing future strategies.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain BDO's sustainability assurance methodology in line with ASSA 5000 and other emerging standards. 

  • Provide technical guidance and respond to complex queries on sustainability assurance engagements from client-facing teams.

  • Collaborate with audit and assurance teams to ensure the effective application of assurance methodology in sustainability-related engagements. 

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of sustainability assurance specialists within AAQ. 

  • Monitor changes in the regulatory and standard-setting environment (both domestic and international) and ensure timely integration into methodology and practice. 

  • Support technical learning, including designing and delivering relevant learning programs. 

  • Engage in thought leadership projects and contribute to BDO’s responses to regulatory consultations on sustainability assurance matters. 

  • Participate in or lead special assignments, cross-functional initiatives, and other technical projects as required. 

  • Service line management, including contribution to overall service line strategy.

About You

  • Graduate degree in Accounting, Economics or Business majoring in Accounting and/or Finance 

  • CA Qualified (or equivalent) 

  • Excellent technical accounting knowledge and skills, including applied knowledge of Australian Accounting and Auditing Standards 

  • Demonstrated experience in performing and/or reviewing sustainability assurance engagements 

  • Broad range of client experience and across various industries

  • Strong project and stakeholder management skills, with experience managing people and technical deliverables 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical matters for diverse audiences
