About the team
This role is part of the Payments Settlements Department within the Business Services Group. The department is responsible for the safe and efficient settlement of interbank obligations arising from the exchange of payments in Australia, conduct of Exchange Settlement Accounts and the settlement of the Reserve Bank's own trading activities. The systems under our care—such as RITS and FSS—are mission-critical to the national economy and require high degree of quality, resiliency, and reliability.

About the role
We are seeking a technically strong and experienced Manager to oversee the direction and testing delivery of non-functional changes as well as lead continuous improvement of non-functional testing practices across our payment systems. This includes systems such as SWIFT, Sterling, RITS, and FSS. The role demands a proven leader who can operate strategically while remaining technically hands-on.
You will:
Lead the non-functional test strategy, planning, execution, and governance for changes to critical systems.
Manage the delivery of testing activities across a variety of delivery methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid).
Oversee performance, resilience, failover, scalability, and operational readiness testing, ensuring systems meet their strict availability and reliability requirements.
Develop and maintain test automation frameworks and toolsets relevant to non-functional domains.
Provide people leadership and technical mentorship to your team and contribute to broader departmental leadership.
Contribute to the broader strategic direction and leadership of the area, sharing accountability with other leaders for overall performance of deliverables and outcomes.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
15+ years experience in non-functional test leadership roles, including significant tenure as a manager.
Deep experience in testing and supporting mission-critical systems with a high bar for uptime, performance, and compliance.
Strong domain knowledge in payments, settlement systems, SWIFT messaging, or banking infrastructure.
Technical proficiency in performance and monitoring tools such as JMeter, Gatling, AppDynamics, Kibana, and others.
A track record of building or enhancing non-functional test automation frameworks and tools.
Leadership skills to inspire, coach, and empower teams.
Strong people skills to influence, collaborate and communicate strongly with key stakeholders across the Bank and externally.
Knowledge and experience working with Agile methodologies, as well as Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery processes, will be highly regarded.
Relevant qualifications in project management and software testing.
