Role Overview

The Director, Market Research will lead strategic research initiatives to deliver key market insights and portfolio analytics across Australia. This leadership role is responsible for the overall success of the assigned market/region, including ownership of all data, research activity, and stakeholder relationships. The Director provides strong, effective leadership to a team of 6 to 8 Research Managers, ensuring comprehensive market coverage and the delivery of accurate commercial real estate information to CoStar clients. A critical part of the role is fostering continuous improvement in data, relationships, revenue, and retention through a deep understanding of market drivers and frequent interaction with internal and external stakeholders. Furthermore, the Director is accountable for the development of all team members through clear communication, regular coaching, constructive feedback, and effective talent management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set the strategic direction for market and portfolio research across all assigned regions.

  • Oversee the production of market analytics, forecasts, and trend reports.

  • Ensure operational excellence, maximum productivity, and adherence to KPIs for the team of Market Managers.

  • Take ownership of all data and research activity for the assigned market/region, ensuring data accuracy, timeliness, and completeness.

  • Drive improvements in market data coverage, accuracy, and depth, encouraging innovative research approaches.

  • Recruit, mentor, coach, and develop a high-performing team of Market Managers.

  • Represent CoStar as a thought leader in client meetings, industry events, and media.

  • Foster continuous improvement in data, relationships, revenue, and retention through interaction with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Maintain a close, coordinated working relationship with sales colleagues to enhance client engagement.

  • Contribute to the strategic leadership of the Australian Research function, upholding professional and performance standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred in Real Estate, Economics, or related field.

  • 10+ years in commercial real estate research or analytics leadership.

  • Strong presentation and client-facing skills.

  • Proven ability to lead large teams and deliver strategic insights.
