Job Description

Acciona Agua Australia, a global leader in sustainable water infrastructure, is inviting expressions of interest for a Mechanical Lead Engineer to support the delivery of major water projects across New South Wales.

This key leadership role will contribute to the successful execution of large-scale infrastructure initiatives, including desalination and conventional water treatment facilities. The ideal candidate will bring strong mechanical engineering expertise, project delivery experience, and a collaborative approach to driving performance and innovation within the water sector.

Project Delivery Leadership

  • Lead the mechanical design, implementation, and commissioning of major water infrastructure projects.

  • Provide senior technical oversight during procurement, construction, and commissioning phases.

  • Ensure compliance with mechanical design intent, technical specifications, and project milestones.

  • Resolve complex technical issues and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Tendering & Design Support

  • Collaborate with bid teams to ensure mechanical design alignment during tender phases.

  • Review and refine technical documentation, cost estimates, and design strategies.

  • Support the development of competitive and compliant proposals.

Procurement & Coordination

  • Work closely with procurement teams to define mechanical scopes and technical requirements.

  • Oversee vendor engagement, RFQ processes, and equipment selection.

  • Coordinate with consultants, subcontractors, and internal teams to ensure seamless delivery.

Client & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Act as a key technical liaison with clients and project partners.

  • Present mechanical solutions and lead discussions to ensure stakeholder confidence.

  • Foster strong relationships to support future project opportunities.

Required Skills and Competencies

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical project delivery or technical tendering.

  • Proven leadership in mechanical design and delivery for desalination or water treatment projects.

  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, equipment selection, and installation practices.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

  • Experience with procurement processes and vendor coordination.

  • Ability to lead under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

  • Willingness to travel interstate and internationally as required.

  • Experience with digital engineering platforms (e.g., BIM) is highly regarded.
