Your position.
We are seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer to convert “as‑sold” system concepts into safe, efficient, and fully integrated mechanical designs. This role is accountable for coordinating mechanical scope across disciplines, ensuring delivery is predictable, on schedule, and within budget.
The position requires strong capability in material handling systems, steelwork, CAD modelling, industrial automation, and safety standards to maintain design quality. The engineer will also support installation and commissioning activities, contribute to continuous improvement, and share technical knowledge across the engineering team.
This role is suited to someone who can apply structured engineering practice, manage complexity, and deliver fit‑for‑purpose solutions in a global project environment.
Responsibilities
Review projects in the sales phase and check compliancy
Translate and optimise “as‑sold” functionality into a mechanical design within budget
Identify specials and coordinate with Special Design Engineering
Coordinate phasing layouts for brownfield projects
Oversee steelwork design
Apply safety and ergonomic design rules
Deliver mechanical design baseline for customer approval
Coordinate building interfaces (space, architecture, structure, services, O&M access, safety/security)
Manage interfaces for procurement items
Specify mechanical equipment and review peer specifications
Coordinate and specify resale equipment
Report regularly to the Project Lead
Create detailed mechanical planning and align with other disciplines
Deliver scope with predictable quality, on time and within budget
Site Support Responsibilities
Prepare installation files and Mechanical Running Test documentation
Manage site problem reports and extra material specifications
Create site installation instructions
Support installation and commissioning teams on site and remotely
Process as‑built documentation
About You
You are a Mechanical Project Engineer with a collaborative mindset, strong customer focus, and a drive for continuous improvement.
Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
Eligible for the National Engineering Register (NER); registration preferred
Eligible for State Engineering Registration; registration preferred
Knowledge of relevant AU/NZ standards (e.g., AS3000, machine safety standards)
Preferred: CMSE, CE Marking, or other machine safety certification
Mechanical system design (conveyors, steelwork, platforms, guarding, MHE systems)
Strong 3D/2D CAD capability (AutoCAD, NAVIS, etc.)
Solid understanding of material handling systems
Ability to translate “as‑sold” concepts into detailed, integrated mechanical designs
Knowledge of engineering processes (baselines, mechanical requirements, procurement specifications)
Ability to support installation, commissioning, and site coordination
Familiarity with simulations, design checks, interface management, and clash detection
Clear, concise, and confident communicator
Structured, detail‑oriented, and analytically strong
Proactive, self‑driven, and effective working both independently and within global teams
Skilled in stakeholder management across customers, suppliers, and internal teams
