Job Description

The Project

ACCIONA has been selected to deliver Western Harbour Tunnel – Stage 2, Sydney’s third harbour crossing. The new Western Harbour Tunnel (WHT) will connect to WestConnex at the Rozelle Interchange, cross underneath Sydney Harbour between Birchgrove and Waverton, and connect with the Warringah Freeway near North Sydney.

Project scope includes:

  • Construction of approximately 4.8 kilometres of mainline tunnels with three lanes in each direction
  • Civil, Mechanical and Electrical fitout of Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunnels
  • Surface level work, including on and off ramps and tie-in work to the Warringah Freeway

 

As the Mechanical Supervisor, you will lead all TBM mechanical activities across assembly, commissioning, operations, maintenance and disassembly. The role coordinates TBM mechanics and maintenance crews, sets work priorities and ensures compliance with OEM and project requirements. You will support continuous tunnelling operations by managing faults, driving safe work practices and maintaining strong communication across rotating rosters.

Specific Tasks Include

  • Supervise TBM mechanical work across all phases
  • Lead and mentor mechanics and maintenance crews
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical and hydraulic faults across all TBM systems (e.g. cutterhead, slurry circuit, thrust, cooling, pumps and auxiliary plant)
  • Plan and prioritise maintenance and repair actions
  • Apply and enforce safety, quality and environmental processes
  • Complete inspections, reports and audit documentation
  • Maintain consistent handovers across rotating rosters

Required Skills and Competencies

Qualifications and Experience

  • Trade qualification in mechanical field
  • Prior experience working on major infrastructure projects
  • Strong TBM (ideally Slurry shield) or heavy plant maintenance experience
  • Proven team leadership on rotating rosters
  • Clear commitment to safety and quality
  • Willingness to work effectively on rotating rosters (including nights, weekends and 7/3-7/4)
