About The Team & Role

eBay Live is reinventing how people shop - merging live entertainment, community, and commerce into one experience. Sellers host interactive live-streams where buyers watch, chat, and purchase instantly across a wide range of categories.

We are looking for a Manager of Planning & Business operations to work side by side with our category leadership team to scale eBay Live in Australia.

This person will develop a deep understanding of category strategy across markets, help translate those strategies into actionable plans across functions, and lead the ongoing monitoring and optimization of those plans to ensure the ambitious growth outcomes are met.

The role requires a strategic yet hands-on leader who can merge storytelling, data insight, and operational rigor with strong emotional intelligence to help our category leadership drive the business at varying altitudes.

This person will serve as an individual contributor to start, with lots of room for upward mobility and additional leverage as things scale.

What you will accomplish:

  • Lead strategic planning for Australia: Drive cross-functional plan development region by region, while applying consistency in global frameworks & ensuring alignment with global product roadmaps

  • Drive optimization of plans (as required) through execution: eBay Live is scaling quickly and operating more as a “startup” within the broader enterprise.  As a result plans are likely to change through iterative execution and maintaining a pulse on what optimizations are required (in close partnership with market leaders) is key

  • Own business review cycles: Ensure appropriate KPIs are tracked and overall health of the business is well known and aligned across teams.  Look back to learn what is working & what isn’t, but maintain a strong grasp of what comes next & where scaling bottlenecks may occur or where plan optimizations are required.  Support regional business performance insights & risk escalation up to global eBay Live leadership team & other senior eBay leaders as required.

  • Support ongoing business forecasting & resource management: FP&A led activity, but work in close partnership ensuring financial plans reflect operational realities and resourcing is aligned and efficiently deployed towards the correct business plan outcomes

  • Support scaling of playbooks and knowledge sharing across regions: Functional teams or COEs will be primary playbook owners, but know the playbooks too and help those teams effectively disseminate knowledge to drive best practice faster.

  • Parachute problem-solving: With a focus toward the core demand & supply funnel in a given region and where standard business processes are breaking down or proving ineffective, preventing the business from scaling.  Help assess if challenge is consistent across markets & support global leadership in systemic solutioning if so.  Role is complimentary to in-market operations/PMO teams who address more bespoke issues.

  • Be a steward of the global operating model: Support development of the global operating model with all functional teams across the organization and own ongoing governance of that model.  Monitor for effectiveness and suggest improvements to global leadership that should be applied across markets

  • Become a live commerce expert: Develop a deep understanding of what it takes for eBay to be successful in live commerce & serve as a thought partner to market & global leadership on how best to make success a reality.

What you will bring:

  • Experience in multiple strategy & operations, portfolio management, and/or consulting-style roles with a heavy lean toward planning & executing in complex, fast paced, cross-functional organizations.  A blend of startup & enterprise experience is a plus.  Typically translates to 6+ years of work experience, but specific roles & skillset matters more

  • Self-starter with a proven track record of developing strategy, managing dependencies, influencing executive-level leaders and driving ownership across cross-functional teams

  • Strategic thinking capabilities, including the ability to share insights to inform business planning initiatives, develop cross-functional frameworks for success, and build cases for investment

  • Strong analytical skills, a proven track record of translating insights into actionable strategic plans, and demonstrable experience of innovative problem-solving at scale

  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to succinctly communicate complex problems to executive audiences, quantify issues and impact, and develop well thought-through resource asks and potential solutions

  • A dynamic, proactive approach, an ability to create clarity out of ambiguity (while also being comfortable with ambiguity), and the desire to work in a very fast-paced, evolving environment

  • Nice to Haves: MBA or similar relevant experience, marketplace or live/creator commerce experience
