Reporting directly to the Senior Response Supervisor, this pivotal role serves as the clinical and operational anchor for the Centre, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, trauma-informed care to survivors. The Senior Midwife is responsible for orchestrating comprehensive medical assessments, emergency interventions, and follow-up treatments while upholding strict adherence to clinical protocols and ethical standards. Beyond direct patient care, the position drives forensic documentation, manages pharmacy resources, and leads a multidisciplinary team through mentorship and quality assurance. The role acts as a critical bridge between clinical services, psychosocial support, and external stakeholders, fostering a safe, culturally sensitive environment that promotes recovery and accountability.
Responsibilities:
- Direct clinical leadership in performing initial medical evaluations, emergency interventions, and ongoing care for survivors, ensuring all actions align with established safety and quality standards.
- Collaborate with the Centre's medical doctor to coordinate forensic examinations, guaranteeing the accurate completion and secure storage of all legal documentation.
- Manage pharmacy operations, including inventory control, stock requisition, expiration tracking, and regular audits to maintain medication safety and availability.
- Champion informed consent, strict confidentiality, and culturally responsive practices in every patient interaction.
- Deliver and supervise trauma-informed counseling services, developing safety plans and conducting necessary home visits or follow-ups.
- Partner with counselors to involve families where suitable, strengthening the survivor's support network and recovery journey.
- Maintain rigorous case documentation and facilitate seamless information sharing among the multidisciplinary team.
- Cultivate and sustain robust referral networks with hospitals, police units, legal aid organizations, and shelters, while participating in external coordination and capacity-building initiatives.
- Liaise with external medical experts to secure endorsements and provide testimony for legal proceedings when required.
- Provide daily coaching and professional development to nursing and counseling staff, organizing skills drills and case review sessions.
- Conduct quality assurance inspections regarding facility readiness, equipment status, and record-keeping, implementing corrective measures in collaboration with the Response Supervisor.
- Assist in defining performance goals, identifying training gaps, and organizing refresher courses in line with organizational policies.
- Establish feedback loops with survivors to drive continuous improvement in care quality.
- Oversee logistical support, procurement requests, and monthly reporting to ensure the Centre operates as a secure and welcoming environment.
- Work alongside prevention and outreach teams to raise awareness about gender-based violence, engage community leaders, and promote advocacy messages that reduce risk for women and girls.
