This is a remote position. With a sufficient timezone overlap with the team, we're able to hire eligible candidates for this role from any location in Australia and New Zealand.
Build and ship high-impact Android features that let teams plan, track, and collaborate on the go. You'll work closely with product, design, and other engineering squads to deliver a fast, reliable, and secure Android app that also incorporates new AI-driven capabilities.
Design, develop, and ship Android features using Kotlin; write clean, test-driven code.
  • Optimize app performance (startup time, memory usage, network efficiency) and ensure high reliability through crash monitoring and robust error handling.
  • Collaborate with Jira web, backend, and data teams to keep feature parity and consistent behavior across platforms.
  • Implement and expand AI-powered functionalities (e.g., smart issue suggestions, automated task classification, predictive analytics) within the Android app.
  • Maintain high test coverage with unit, integration, and UI tests (JUnit, Espresso); conduct code reviews and mentor peers.
  • Influence Android architecture.
  • Engage with customers via support tickets, community forums, and beta programs to prioritize work.
  • Translate UX/UI designs into intuitive, accessible Android interfaces; run usability tests and iterate.
  • Keep technical documentation, design docs, and onboarding guides up-to-date; share knowledge through talks or Confluence pages.

  • 1+ years of native Android development with Kotlin; experience with iOS is a plus but not required.
  • Strong grasp of Android architecture patterns, REST/GraphQL APIs, offline sync, and push notifications.
  • Proficient with CI/CD for Android and automated testing pipelines.
  • Skilled in unit and UI testing frameworks (JUnit, Espresso).
  • Excellent collaboration and communication in a distributed, cross-functional environment.
  • Passion for solving complex problems, delivering performant user-centric solutions, and embodying Atlassian's values of openness, humility, and teamwork.
