OPPORTUNITY:
The Boeing MQ-28 - Ghost Bat is a globally significant program delivering disruptive advantage to support Defence operational capabilities. Developed in partnership with the Royal Australian Air Force, it is the first military combat aircraft to be designed, manufactured and assembled in Australia in 50 years. In line with the global ambitions of the aircraft it is also the first (and currently only) CCA globally to fly outside of the country in which it was designed.
MQ-28 is expanding globally with international customers and international design and partner network.
Position Overview:
As a Senior Software Engineer specialising in the Ground System for the MQ-28 Ghost Bat project, you will play a critical role in the development, integration, and maintenance of software systems that support the launch, recovery and situational awareness of our advanced unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the software system is robust, reliable, secure and capable of meeting mission requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
  1. Software Development:
    • Design, develop, and test software applications for ground control systems, including automation of Unit level tests, ensuring compliance with project standards.
    • Develop and support build pipelines and infrastructure and own your systems in production.
  2. Integration and Testing:
    • Develop and lead software verification plans, test procedures and test environments, executing the test procedures and documenting test results to ensure software system requirements are met.
    • Conduct rigorous testing and verification of software to ensure performance, reliability, and security.
  3. System Maintenance:
    • Monitor and troubleshoot software issues, providing timely resolutions to maintain system integrity.
    • Perform regular updates and enhancements to existing software systems based on user feedback and evolving mission requirements.
  4. Documentation:
    • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for software design, development processes, and user manuals.
    • Ensure all documentation is up-to-date and accessible for team members and stakeholders.
  5. Collaboration:
    • Work closely with other engineering disciplines, including systems engineering, safety and airworthiness, cybersecurity, and user experience, to deliver integrated solutions.
    • Contribute and be prepared to lead agile ceremonies, actively participate in daily stand-ups, retrospectives, Program Increment planning and other team meetings.
    • With general direction perform design reviews, code reviews, and technical meetings to share knowledge and improve team performance.
    • Develop supplier/subcontract performance assessment including appropriate metrics. Make recommendations of adequacy of subcontractor/supplier technical approach to project lead.
    • Contributes to the completion of specific programs and projects. Failure to obtain results, reaching erroneous decisions or making recommendations would typically result in serious program delays and considerable expenditure of resources
    • Mentor less experienced team members
  6. Research and Development:
    • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends related to UAV ground systems and software engineering.
    • Contribute to research initiatives aimed at improving the capabilities and efficiency of the MQ-28 Ghost Bat ground systems.

Qualifications:
  • Education: Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 8 years of experience in software development, with a focus on Aerospace or Defence systems preferred (Essential).
    • Proficiency in programming languages such as C++, C# or Python (Essential).
    • Experience with software development methodologies (Agile, Scrum) and tools (Git, JIRA) (Highly Desirable).
    • Experience in the Aerospace industry (Highly Desirable).
    • Experience with design and development work with Human Machine Interfaces (UX/UI) (Highly Desirable).
  • Skills:
    • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team (Essential).
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written (Essential).
    • Familiarity with ground control systems and UAV operations (Highly Desirable).
    • Independently determines and develops approaches to solutions. Receives general direction for work that is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives (Essential).
  • Security Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a minimum of an NV1 level security clearance (Essential).

Working Conditions:
  • This position may require occasional travel to support field testing and customer engagements.
  • Work may be performed in a combination of office and lab environments.
