The Opportunity
The Boeing MQ-28 Ghost Bat is a globally-significant program that will deliver a disruptive advantage to support Defence operational capabilities.
Boeing Defence Australia is expanding the MQ-28 "Ghost Bat" programme and seeks a senior software engineer with deep expertise in Link 16 and broader tactical data-link technologies. You will join a multidisciplinary team responsible for the full software lifecycle of the MQ-28 mission system, from concept through test and field deployment.
This role is based in Brisbane and reports into the MQ-28 Missions Systems Software Manager.
Responsibilities:
  • Leads the design, development, test, and maintenance of software throughout the end-to-end lifecycle that meets industry, customer, safety, and regulation standards.
  • Leads reviews, analysis, and translates customer requirements-particularly those related to Link 16-into initial designs and detailed architectures.
  • Performs development, maintenance, and optimises software products and functionality for systems integration, including data-link interfaces.
  • Leads development, documentation and maintenance of architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces and designs for software products.
  • Leads debugging and resolution of issues identified to ensure the reliability and efficiency of software products.
  • Leads implementation of current and emerging technologies, tools, frameworks and changes in regulations relevant to software development.
  • Leads development, establishment, monitoring and improvement of software processes, tools and key performance metrics that align projects with organizational goals and industry benchmarks.
  • Collaborate with global Boeing teams, customers and stakeholders to integrate Link 16 capabilities into the MQ-28 platform.

Experience and Qualifications
  • Strong C++ SW development skills.
  • Link 16 expertise (experience with Link 16 implementations, J-series messages, timing, and security).
  • Familiarity with the Link 16 standard MIL-STD-6016, which defines the operational, performance, and security requirements for Link 16.
  • Experience with mission systems, sensor integration, messaging protocols, and data exchange
  • Experience with Link 16 Conformance to Standard (CTS) testing to achieve Authority to Operate (ATO) is desirable.
  • Experience with Open Mission Systems (OMS) development is desirable
  • Experience with MIL-STD-1553 serial bus integration is desirable
  • Experience with Automated Test Frameworks is desirable.
  • Experience in software development for Defence software applications is desirable.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics and/or Electrical Engineering.
