Job Description

Network & Systems Engineer (Cisco) – Sydney / Field-Based

We are seeking a Network & Systems Engineer with approximately 2–5 years’ experience to join a team supporting enterprise customers across multiple data centre environments.

This role is primarily focused on network engineering (Cisco environments), with some exposure to Linux systems administration considered highly desirable. It is a hands-on operational role, supporting live infrastructure and ensuring high availability, performance, and reliability across customer environments.

The role will require regular travel between data centres and customer sites, so a driver’s licence and access to a car is strongly preferred.

An Australian Citizenship is essential due to customer site access requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and maintain network infrastructure (Cisco-based LAN/WAN environments) including routing, switching, and firewalls
  • Troubleshoot and resolve network incidents and service outages, ensuring minimal business impact
  • Perform proactive monitoring of network performance, availability, and capacity
  • Configure and support network security controls including VPNs, firewalls, and access controls
  • Conduct root cause analysis for network issues and implement permanent fixes
  • Support system and infrastructure health checks across networked environments
  • Assist with Linux system support (RHEL/Ubuntu) where required
  • Support hybrid environments with exposure to cloud networking (AWS/Azure desirable)
  • Work with senior engineers to support network upgrades, changes, and deployments
  • Contribute to documentation, standards, and operational improvements

Qualifications

Key Requirements

  • 2–5 years’ experience in a Network Engineering or Network Support role
  • Strong hands-on experience with Cisco networking (routing, switching, VLANs, etc.)
  • Good understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, and network security principles
  • Experience in incident management and troubleshooting in live environments
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Splunk, Nagios, or Prometheus
  • Basic scripting exposure (Bash or Python) highly desirable
  • Some exposure to Linux systems administration (RHEL preferred) is a bonus
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

Essential Requirements

  • Australian Citizenship (mandatory)
  • Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel between customer data centres/sites
