We are seeking an Optical Product and Training Specialist to enhance the knowledge and skills of customers and internal staff regarding product offerings – Lens, lens extras and VTS (Digital Centration and Refraction equipment).  This role involves developing and delivering engaging training programs, identifying training gaps, and collaborating with stakeholders to implement effective training initiatives.

The ideal candidate will be an optometrist with a strong understanding of the optical industry and a passion for education. They will be based in either Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane with other Australian capital cities considered. This role will require frequent and extensive travel across Australia and New Zealand with occasional international travel also required.

The key responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:

  • Training Delivery: Demonstrate and deliver face-to-face and virtual training sessions on the product portfolio and VTS equipment to optometrists, optical dispensers, and front-of-house staff.
  • Presentations to Industry Partners: Deliver presentations to industry partners, including academia and trade shows, to promote our training programs and products.
  • VTS Equipment Key User: Serve as a key user of VTS equipment, providing insights and expertise to enhance training materials and sessions.
  • Onboarding New Customers: Facilitate the onboarding process for new customers, ensuring a smooth transition and understanding of our products and services.
  • In-Store Support: Provide in-store support to customers, proactively addressing any training requirements related to our products and services.
  • Collaboration with Academic Institutions: Work closely with academic institutions to develop training programs and foster mutually beneficial partnerships.
  • Training Gap Identification: Proactively identify training gaps and opportunities within the organization and address them to enhance overall performance.
  • Internal Training: Conduct internal training sessions to ensure staff are knowledgeable about VTS equipment and product offerings.
  • Creation and Maintenance of Training Tools: Develop and maintain all internal and external training tools, including product portfolio, conversion guides, one-pagers, and troubleshooting guides to support training efforts.

The key skills required for this role include:

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience as an Optometrist
  • A strong clinical and application knowledge of the ophthalmic/optometry discipline
  • A strong knowledge of practice workflows, patient management and optical practice business management
  • Proven experience in training and development, preferably in the optical or healthcare industry.
  • Strong communication, organisational and presentation skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences, via face to face, digital (webinars) and phone
  • Literacy in CRM software e.g. Salesforce preferred
  • Proficient in MS Suite Office essential, especially: Teams, PowerPoint, Word & Excel
  • Familiarity with PMS (Practice Management Systems) such as Optomate & Sunix desirable.
  • Familiarity with VTS equipment and optical products is a plus
  • Ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders, including academic institutions and marketing teams
  • Out of hours and weekend work as required to meet business needs.
  • Proficient in using digital tools for training delivery and content management
  • Valid driver’s licence
  • Frequent and extensive travel within Australia and New Zealand including some international travel as required
