Job DescriptionWe are seeking a Platform Engineer who specialises in building and supporting Kubernetes platforms for multiple business units and teams. In this role, you will be instrumental in developing, managing, and continuously improving a robust, scalable, and multi-tenanted Kubernetes platform used across Nine's digital and media properties.
Your expertise will enable application teams to deploy, monitor, and scale their services efficiently while ensuring the underlying platform remains highly reliable, secure, and optimised. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams, fostering collaboration and adopting modern DevOps practices to deliver a seamless platform experience.
Day to day you will:
- You'll design, build, and maintain a scalable and secure Kubernetes platform for various business units. This includes ensuring security and regulatory compliance by defining and enforcing best practices, security standards, and access controls to keep the platform safe and auditable.
- You'll implement automation and infrastructure-as-code (IaC) solutions using tools like Terraform, Helm, and CI/CD pipelines to manage Kubernetes resources efficiently. A key focus is optimizing the platform for multi-tenancy, ensuring fair resource allocation and cost efficiency.
- You'll work closely with developers to facilitate the onboarding, deployment, and operation of their containerized applications. This involves acting as a subject matter expert and mentor, helping teams adopt Kubernetes and fostering a culture of operational excellence.
- You'll integrate the platform with observability solutions so that development teams can effectively monitor logs, metrics, and traces. This gives them the visibility they need to troubleshoot and manage their applications.
- You'll be responsible for the full lifecycle management of Kubernetes clusters, which includes handling upgrades, scaling, and resolving incidents to ensure the platform remains reliable and performant.
What you’ll bring:
- Extensive experience in building and managing Kubernetes platforms in cloud or hybrid environments, with a preference for AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Strong proficiency in container orchestration and automation using tools like Terraform, Helm, and CI/CD pipelines to manage workloads, networking, and storage within Kubernetes.
- Knowledge of securing Kubernetes environments using RBAC and network policies, along with experience integrating platforms with observability stacks (e.g., Grafana, Prometheus, Loki, and Tempo).
- Advanced scripting and programming skills, particularly in languages like Go, Python, and Shell.
- Proven ability to support development teams with deployment pipelines and troubleshooting, while also managing multi-tenanted platforms and ensuring production readiness and cost optimization.
