Job Description
This role offers a unique opportunity to join TAL’s Individual Life Pricing and Value team, where you will lead and support strategic pricing initiatives to manage the value of heritage portfolios across Retail and Direct channels. Responsibilities include designing and delivering pricing initiatives for inforce business, ensuring product and pricing sustainability, and maintaining the portfolio and pricing capabilities. Success requires strong collaboration with internal stakeholders, including operational and remediation teams, as well as excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and a deep understanding of Life Insurance products, pricing, regulatory environment, and industry issues.
In this role you will:
- Leading and driving pricing analysis and insight across a range of inforce propositions, ensuring that TAL’s Individual Risk products maintain the appropriate balance of market attractiveness, customer benefit and target profitability metrics
- Analysing claims, lapse and sales data in the setting of assumptions and premium rates and to assist with producing business insights and design of business initiatives
- You will be accountable for the provision of detailed technical analysis as the pricing lead on remediation activities – a comprehensive, ongoing program of varied work that will span a range of products, issues and stakeholders.
- Producing quotes and other ad hoc actuarial calculations to provide technical assistance to the business
- Proactively develop solutions to improve the automation and efficiency of manual calculations, and articulate the business benefits
- Review core documentation (policy documents, marketing material, commercial agreements with third parties e.g. reinsurers) for accuracy, transparency and risk management.
- Support a highly collaborative team environment and create opportunities to share knowledge between peers and colleagues.
- Provide a range of technical assistance to the broader Pricing and Value team in the support of strategic initiatives.
Qualifications
- Ability to solve complex commercial and actuarial problems and a natural desire to think laterally.
- Relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. Actuarial, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering).
- Minimum 3 years’ working experience in pricing or valuation of life insurance individual risk products in Australia.
- FIAA or qualified actuary of a recognised actuarial body required. Candidates close to qualification with strong working experience will be considered as well.
- Ability to understand technical analysis and learn quickly.
- Ability to work and communicate effectively with others and manage stakeholders, including less technical colleagues.
- Experience with a range of tools and applications including Microsoft Office Suite, Prophet, SQL, VBA and R.
- A strong track record of thoughtful, innovative and well-executed work.
- Knowledge of the current regulatory and commercial operating environment for Australian Individual Risk business, both advised and direct, strongly preferred.
