Portfolio Manager – ABS & Securitised Credit

Join a high-performing investment team managing a growing portfolio of asset-backed securities across the Australian and New Zealand markets.

This is a key Portfolio Manager role with direct responsibility for originating, executing and managing public and private ABS transactions.

You’ll be stepping into an existing portfolio with significant momentum and an active deal pipeline. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical knowledge, transaction experience, and the confidence to operate independently in a fast-paced investment environment.
About Challenger Investment Management Fixed Income
Challenger Investment Management Fixed Income (CIM FI) is an institutional fixed income manager with approximately $16.5 billion in funds under management. Our investable universe spans public and private credit markets, including debt capital markets, loans, asset-backed securities and alternative credit strategies.
We manage capital on behalf of Challenger Life Company and third-party institutional clients, investing across a broad set of fixed income markets to deliver strong relative value and risk-adjusted returns.
About the role
You’ll join the securitised credit team within CIM FI, managing investments across the domestic ABS portfolio. Your responsibilities will include:
Transaction Origination & Execution

Leading the origination and execution of private warehouse and public ABS transactions

Conducting investment due diligence, commercial negotiation, structuring, internal approvals and legal documentation

Building and maintaining strong relationships with issuers, banks and counterparties
Portfolio Management

Monitoring and managing existing ABS investments, including performance tracking, portfolio reporting and responding to amendments or restructures

Contributing to investment committee materials and ongoing investment commentary
Collaboration & Internal Engagement

Working closely with internal stakeholders across Legal, Credit Risk, Finance, Compliance and Operations

Supporting investor reporting and marketing materials as required
The skills and experience you’ll need
We're seeking an experienced ABS professional who can confidently manage deals from end to end. You’ll likely bring:
- 5–10+ years’ experience in securitisation, ABS investing, structured finance or warehouse lending
- Deep understanding of the Australian and New Zealand ABS markets, particularly private warehouse structures
- Strong analytical, structuring and financial modelling skills (Excel essential; SQL or coding experience a bonus)
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
- The ability to operate independently and take ownership of transactions
- Tertiary qualifications in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or related fields; CFA designation well regarded
- A background in securitisation structuring at a bank, debt capital markets, or buy-side ABS investing would be highly relevant.
