Position Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Portfolio Specialist to join our Client Portfolio Management (CPM) team supporting the Systematic Equity organisation. Systematic Equity at State Street Investment Management spans the full spectrum of quantitative equity strategies, including index, smart beta, sustainability, and active quantitative approaches. The CPM team comprises client-facing investment professionals and subject matter experts who collaborate with Portfolio Management, Research, and Sales to clearly articulate, support, and grow our business.
Based in Sydney and covering clients across Asia Pacific, this role reports to the Head of Client Portfolio Management (APAC), also based in Sydney. Portfolio Specialists are high-energy, organised individuals with excellent communication skills, strong investment acumen, and a desire to grow into a client-facing investment role. This is a multi-faceted position that plays a key role in new product development and serves as a first point of contact for Legal, Compliance, Sales, and Marketing on all investment-related communications.

You will support many of Australia’s largest superannuation funds and play an active role in expanding our business across Asia.
Role Responsibilities
As a Portfolio Specialist, you will be responsible for:
Subject Matter Expertise
Serve as the internal subject matter expert (SME) for State Street Investment Management’s Systematic Equity business. Clearly articulate the investment philosophy and process, and work closely with Portfolio Management and Research to understand how portfolio changes impact composition and performance.Portfolio Analytics
Conduct exposure, attribution, risk, and ESG analysis across a wide range of regional, sector, and style exposures.Commentary Development
Write regular portfolio commentaries for client distribution and publication.Collateral & Client Reporting
Assist in updating strategy collateral, including factsheets, cheat sheets, presentations, and customised client reports.Content & Messaging
Take ownership of developing new content and messaging for flagship strategies, ensuring consistency and high standards across all internal and external communications.Strategy & Client Support
Provide ongoing support for existing strategies by coordinating due diligence questionnaires, RFP responses, and ad hoc client queries.Operational Efficiency
Identify opportunities to streamline processes and reporting through automation tools and collaboration with global teams.Risk Excellence
Uphold the highest standards of risk excellence by working with Marketing, Compliance, Content Management, Legal, and Product teams to ensure all strategy materials meet regulatory and brand requirements.

Education & Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Mathematics, Economics, or a related discipline
CFA designation or progress toward CFA (or similar qualification)
3–6 years of relevant investment experience (equities required; active quantitative exposure a plus)
Excellent quantitative skills, with the ability to analyse and interpret large datasets and present findings clearly
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
Proficiency in one or more programming languages used in data analysis or financial modeling (e.g., Python, SQL) preferred
Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools such as Copilot, with the ability to leverage them for enhanced productivity
Knowledge of FactSet and Bloomberg
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Passion for financial markets and investing
Team player with the ability to work independently and deliver results within deadlines
