About the Role

We are looking for a dynamic Principal Developer who is keen to drive solutions for complex problems individually and in a team-based environment. The role will play a foundational role in shaping the future of Payment Settlements technologies working with systems including the Reserve Bank Information and Transfer System (RITS) and the RBA NPP Fast Settlement Service (FSS).

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic input and technical leadership in the design, planning, and execution of large-scale application development projects that support the Bank's Payments Settlements business.
  • Provide expert advice, technical guidance, and mentorship to less experienced developers and development teams
  • Lead the governance and enforcement of development standards, best practices, and methodologies to ensure strategic alignment, high technical quality, and consistency across projects.
  • Ensure that system development standards are maintained and participate in code reviews.
  • Design and influence the architecture of mission critical and complex systems, ensuring they meet business needs and align with long-term technical strategy
  • Work closely with business stakeholders, project managers, architects, and other engineering teams to align technical efforts with business goals
  • Identify and evangelize new technologies, frameworks, and approaches to improve development processes and product outcomes
  • Maintain a working knowledge of tools and software packages used.
  • Undertake relevant research including the evaluation of new software, tools and techniques ensuring fit to the Bank's enterprise architecture and standards.
  • Ensure all system documentation complies with relevant IT Standards.

About You

  • Can demonstrate strategic insight, technical leadership and governance of development standards
  • Has a proven background in Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and a deep understanding of the related tools
  • Strong knowledge of clearing streams and electronic settlement systems
  • Experience in designing and developing mission critical payment systems
  • Experience in design, development and management of Java solutions for critical, high performance and continuously availability (24/7) systems

Highly desirable but not essential:

  • Detailed and working knowledge of HVCS, NPP, and ISO20022 messaging standards
  • Experienced in designing and developing cloud-based applications using PaaS, and IaaS. Azure cloud platform and AKS experience.
  • Working knowledge on information security considerations associated with the application development 
  • Ability to identify and document / call out dependencies with other projects / systems
  • Experience and exposure to agile ways of working
