Avetta is looking for a Principal DevOps Engineer to shape the strategy and ensure the uptime and reliability of our global, customer-facing infrastructure. This role plays a critical part in optimizing performance, maintaining high availability, and delivering scalable solutions. Key Responsibilities
- Automate Infrastructure: Design and implement secure, scalable, and predictable infrastructure solutions.
- Environment Management: Oversee and support both production and development environments.
- CI/CD Systems: Implement Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, and Git.
- Infrastructure Automation: Manage large-scale environments via tools like SaltStack and Terraform.
- Linux/Unix Administration: Ensure high system availability and optimize performance.
- Backup & Disaster Recovery: Administer enterprise-level backups and disaster recovery protocols, including encryption.
- Networking & Microservices: Administer DNS, NAT, internet gateways, and maintain microservices architectures.
- API Design: Deep understanding of RESTful APIs and HTTP protocols.
- 24/7 Production Support: Act as a first responder to resolve critical production issues on a global SaaS platform.
- Monitoring & Optimization: Automate real-time monitoring systems to maintain 99.95% uptime.
- Cost Optimization: Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities through automation and infrastructure reuse.
- Containerization & Orchestration: Utilize Docker and Kubernetes to support scalable, shared infrastructure.
- Innovation: Continuously explore and propose new technologies to enhance infrastructure, security, and performance.
- Leadership: Guide and mentor, a team of DevOps Engineers to achieve operational goals.
Minimum Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Certifications in cloud technologies (e.g., AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, Google Cloud DevOps Engineer, Microsoft Certified DevOps Engineer Expert).
- 7+ years of experience in a Senior DevOps role with hands-on DevOps experience with expertise in CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- 5+ years of experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation).
- 3+ years of experience in a leadership or technical lead role, overseeing teams of up to 5 members.
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash, Python, and Go.
- Expertise in container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) and networking tools (HAProxy, ALB).
- Strong knowledge of automation/configuration tools like SaltStack and Terraform.
- Proven ability to manage teams and lead DevOps initiatives.

- Response Time: Ensure timely resolution of internal requests.
- Uptime: Maintain a 99.95% uptime across all systems.
- Cost Efficiency: Continuously drive cost reductions in infrastructure.
- Innovation: Regularly propose and implement improvements to processes and technologies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Candidates must be Australian Citizens or Permanent Residents without any restrictions to work in Australia and must be located near Avetta’s Sydney or Newcastle offices for in-person collaboration.
