Payments Technology is responsible for the world-leading application of technology and operations across every aspect of the payments landscape and a core component of the wider business banking - from innovative product platforms for our customers, to essential tools within our business. We also use technology to drive simplicity and better banking, an essential component of great customer service underpinning a strong emphasis on software development as a craft and the adoption of industry best engineering practices.

You’ll be part of High Value and International Payments Crew enabling High Value and Cross Border payment capabilities across CBA's payments ecosystem. We deliver high value and international payment options that are faster, safer, more affordable and transparent, which meets the changing needs of our customers through a seamless digital experience.

As a Principal Engineer, you’ll uplift our engineering, automation, and DevSecOps journey, spearheading the adoption of DevSecOps practices and driving a cultural shift towards security-first development. You’ll help shape the future of our digital platform while focusing on designing, developing, and deploying innovative technology solutions that will enable us to build tomorrow's bank today. You’ll use your skills in the leading the engineers and implementing complex innovative solutions that are scalable, resilient, and efficient. Also, you’ll have a strong risk mindset in ensuring that appropriate security controls are implemented and play a significant mentoring role in providing technical assistance to the engineers in the team.

We’re interested in hearing from people who:

  • Drives automation practices and DevSecOps journey for the crew

  • Provides overall engineering leadership for the platform including software, systems, quality and site reliability.

  • Have ability to design technology solutions to meet the highest possible quality standards while simultaneously balancing security, performance, availability, and maintainability concerns.

  • Designs and implements innovative technical solutions to complex problems, including onboarding and migrating to new tooling as well as removing obsolete systems and code.

  • Are well versed with solution architecture, technology blueprints, engineering roadmaps, and translating the project vision into actionable plans.

  • Encourages risk-taking and constructively challenges the status quo while influencing stakeholders and building diverse and inclusive teams.

Skills:

We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks. We don’t expect you to know them all but experience or exposure with some of these will set you up for success in this team:

  • Expertise with CI/CD and DevSecOps best practices

  • Experience building public APIs that support mission critical applications

  • Experience building secure, scalable and highly available cloud-native applications

  • Ability to contribute to strategy and architecture, and translate this into pragmatic engineering design decisions

  • Experience working with Payments or related domains is highly regarded.

  • Thorough understanding of large-scale distributed systems, solution design and architecture principles
