As a Principal Engineer, you will architect and evolve the technical foundation of Immutable Play, collaborating across teams to enhance product delivery and player engagement in Web3 gaming.
About Us 🚀
Immutable is a global technology company, powering the leading platform for building games on Ethereum. We are on a mission to build the future of gaming by redefining how games are played and discovered. Founded in 2018, Immutable is one of the fastest Australian companies to hit unicorn status, having raised more than AUD $300M+ and a valuation of AUD $3.5 billion.
Currently, the Immutable Group consists of the Immutable Platform, the leading platform for building games on Ethereum powering successful games like RavenQuest and Immortal Rising 2, and Immutable Games, a global leader in web3 game development and publishing with leading titles Gods Unchained and Guild of Guardians.
Our ambition is to make digital worlds real; we have incredible global growth plans as the fastest growing gaming chain in 2024 with 250+ games signed, more than in all previous years combined. 🚀
About The Role 🤔:
Immutable is building the future of player onboarding, discovery, and engagement, and we are looking for a Principal Engineer to help define that future. Our goal is to help more games launch successfully using our next-generation monetisation and growth products.
As a Principal Engineer for our marketing and growth automation products, you will be a pivotal technical force behind our product, the primary destination where millions of players will discover, onboard to, and engage with Web3 and Web2 games. This is a high-impact, highly autonomous role designed for an engineer who thrives at the intersection of product, data, and platform engineering.
You will work closely with Engineering, Product, Design, Data, and Go-To-Market partners to architect systems, accelerate product velocity, and shape the evolution of a world-class growth and game discovery platform. Your work will directly influence how games launch, scale, and retain players across the ecosystem. This is not a people-management role. It is a technical leadership position for someone who wants to build, influence, and change the trajectory of a product through world-class engineering.
You'll Be Empowered To 🎮:
- Architect and evolve the technical foundation of Immutable Play, including onboarding systems, personalized game discovery, and smart matchmaking.
- Partner with Product to shape the roadmap using data, customer insights, and technical intuition to ensure we are solving real problems for studios and players.
- Experience in MarTech, GameTech, AdTech space with exposure to product analytics and experimentation tools such as Mixpanel, Amplitude, Looker, AppsFlyer, or LaunchDarkly
- Influence long-term technical decisions while also accelerating short-term product iteration.
- Own end-to-end delivery of core product features with a focus on durability, scalability, and exceptional user experience.
- Design and implement systems that power player acquisition, activation, and retention for Web2 and Web3 games.
- Lead experimentation frameworks, scoring systems, and targeting engines that enable faster product-led growth.
- Lead with your deep experience building, integrating, or scaling AI-powered systems, with the ability to evaluate models, design intelligent features, and leverage AI tooling to improve product performance and developer velocity.
- Establish engineering best practices that improve performance, reliability, and speed of execution across the team.
- Mentor and level up engineers through deep technical guidance, pairing, and architectural coaching.
- Act as a multiplier by unblocking teams, simplifying complexity, and enabling faster decision-making.
- Use product analytics, experimentation, and customer feedback to validate assumptions and improve feature outcomes.
- Collaborate closely with Data Science to design models, define telemetry, and evaluate impact.
- Translate complex product requirements into clear, actionable engineering decisions.
- Work with GTM, BD, and Commercial to understand studio workflows and identify new opportunities to help games launch and grow.
- Communicate trade-offs, risks, and options clearly to ensure alignment across engineering and product groups.
We'd Love You To Bring 🤝:
- 8+ years of experience building scalable consumer or SaaS platforms with strong full-stack or backend depth.
- Experience in growth engineering, experimentation platforms, or consumer discovery engines.
- Background in gaming, game technology, or player lifecycle systems.
- Experience building or integrating AI-driven features, recommendation systems, or personalization engines.
- Fluency in technologies such as TypeScript, React, Go, Node.js, AWS, or equivalent cloud-native stacks.
- A track record of designing resilient distributed systems, experimentation frameworks, or high-performance user-facing products.
- Familiarity with Web3 technologies or digital asset ecosystems.
- A builder’s mindset with the ability to connect technical choices directly to user outcomes.
- Experience contributing to product discovery, shaping problem definitions, or driving product-led experimentation.
- Ability to simplify complexity and find elegant solutions in ambiguous or fast-moving environments.
- Exceptional communication and collaboration skills that align engineers, designers, PMs, and commercial partners around shared outcomes.
- Proven experience providing technical mentorship, leading architecture discussions, and elevating engineering standards across a team.
- Strong delivery discipline with the ability to balance prototyping, velocity, and long-term quality.
- Comfort working in a startup or scale-up environment where pace, ownership, and autonomy are essential.
Bonus Points For ✅:
- Curiosity about how games acquire, retain, and monetise players across both Web2 and Web3 contexts
- Understanding of the gaming or marketing technology ecosystem, or experience in a high-growth B2B SaaS environment
