Job Description

Our Acciona Construction business unit in Victoria has been expanding its project portfolio and team size, building on its previous success. This growth, along with recent internal movements, has created an opportunity for an Engineering Manager to join the regional leadership team.

This is a senior role responsible for supporting regional Engineering and Design teams consisting of internal resources and external consultants. You will provide leadership to engineering and design aspects of our infrastructure projects within the business unit to ensure the design meets the needs of our delivery teams including all technical, contractual, commercial, and program deliverables.
Key accountabilities for the position will be:
 

  • Provide leadership to engineering and design teams  on tenders and projects in delivery with a focus on delivering design solutions that optimise the outcomes for our projects, creating value across scope, program, budget, and contract negotiations.
  • Collaboratively design and deliver development strategies to strengthen and build future capability of our engineering and design teams.
  • Proactively contribute to resource planning to build teams that best deliver the project and enable career development throughout the function.
  • Lead innovation and knowledge sharing initiatives to enable teams to work smarter across the region.
  • Contribute across pre-contracts to enable future growth in the region through successful bid proposals.
  • Prepare consultants' briefs, seek fee proposals, and manage the process of consultants' selection.
  • Manage budget, fee estimates, and commercial arrangements with design consultants to assess variations and scope changes identifying budget overruns and recommending mitigation strategies.
  • Be a point of escalation and perspective to project teams across the design process and delivery phase process to ensure that all detail design is compliant with the parameters of the Cost Plan and maximise the Project's profit potential.
  • Establish, manage, and maintain a realistic design program and deliverables to satisfy contract, procurement, and construction requirements by monitoring progress; coordinating activities; resolving problems, and ensuring the timely production of design reporting information as required.
  • Manage the design-related RFI's, NCR's, design change, and closure of comments between stakeholders including Design and Construction Delivery teams.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering or a related technical discipline, combined with significant and demonstrable EPC experience.
  • Considerable demonstrated experience in optimising project outcomes through a similar position working for or managing design consultants within EPC, D&C, and PPP projects.
  • Advanced Written and verbal communication skills along with well-developed influencing and people management skills
  • Problem-solving, analytical thinking, and leadership skills
  • Strong experience in planning and staging programs
