Brattle Australia

The Brattle Group, a privately held, global economic consulting firm, is seeking an experienced Research Associate to join our growing competition practice in Sydney. For over a decade, Brattle’s Sydney office has been at the forefront of delivering market-leading corporate finance and economic consulting capabilities across Australia. As we continue to grow, we are looking for talented individuals to join our high-performing team. Our Australia-based professionals work side by side with clients to tackle their most complex challenges, developing novel and rigorous approaches that make a real impact. From assessing economic and commercial damages to shaping innovative solutions and bringing global insights to local markets, we are committed to delivering exceptional analysis and client service—and to building a team where you can do your best work.

Our Work

The competition practice at Brattle in Sydney includes classic competition matters such as mergers and misuses of market power, in addition to other matters requiring a detailed understanding of competition and/or empirical analysis, including estimating damages and market studies. Much of our work involves litigation, but we are also asked to provide consulting assistance in some cases. We work on both the plaintiff/government side and for law firms acting for those accused of anti-competitive conduct.

The Role

Our Research Associates are involved in diverse, challenging assignments within a stimulating, collegial, and fast‑paced work environment. As a Research Associate in our Competition practice, you will participate in project teams with senior consulting staff and leading industry experts, analysing complex matters. You will have an opportunity to support our Principals, Academic Advisors, and Outside Experts as they serve as expert witnesses before courts and arbitration panels on behalf of law firms, corporations, and government agencies.

This role offers clear and structured career progression within the firm, and the individual will work closely with Principals in the office, providing strong visibility, hands-on mentoring, and meaningful opportunities for professional growth. Brattle Research Associates also benefit from continuous formal and informal training and development opportunities.

Research Associates at Brattle are often experienced professionals who bring valuable expertise and education to our team. This role is ideal for those who have proven excellent analytical skills and are eager to manage and supervise analytical workstreams, training more junior staff and contribute to expert report drafting. Over time, you will take on increasing responsibility in leading projects, contributing to client engagement, and developing subject-matter expertise thus building a strong foundation for progression within the firm.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • 4-6 years' experience in economic consulting or a similar environment
  • An honors degree in economics (or a joint degree with economics)
  • Strong analytic and quantitative skills (including proficiency with analytical/statistical software such as R and Excel), along with practical problem-solving abilities
  • Strong relationship building skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • A desire to work in a collaborative team environment
  • Demonstrated record of outstanding academic and/or practical accomplishment
  • An entrepreneurial drive and intellectual curiosity

To be considered for the Research Associate position, please submit the following materials:

  • CV/resume
  • Cover letter (describing your interest in economic consulting)
  • Transcripts from all university academic programs
