Who We Are

The name ThousandEyes was born from two big ideas: the power to see things not ordinarily possible and the ability to collect insights from a multitude of vantage points. As the world continues its digital transformation and relies more on cloud services and the Internet, the “network,” which is now both public and private, has become a black box our customers cannot see or understand. Our Internet and cloud intelligence platform delivers the only collectively powered real-time view of the Internet and private networks, cloud, and SaaS platforms, helping enterprises and service providers identify problems before they impact revenue, damage brand reputation, or halt employee productivity.

In August 2020, Cisco Systems completed the acquisition of ThousandEyes, which now forms the ThousandEyes Business Unit within the Cisco Networking Business Group and is the Network Assurance solution for Cisco across the Cisco Networking Cloud and Cisco Security Cloud. ThousandEyes is also a foundational component of Cisco’s growing Full-Stack Observability (“FSO”) business.

About the Role

The Application Window is expected to close on 4/11/25. However, the job posting may be removed earlier if the position is filled or if a sufficient number of applications are received.

Our research teams have access to massive volumes of unmatched data collected from some of the largest enterprise and public networks in the world. While your time at ThousandEyes as an intern might be limited, your impact will be immense! You will be paired with and mentored by a full-time researcher on an internet measurement project, where you will help develop and author an original research paper leveraging ThousandEyes' data.

Requirements

  • Working towards a PhD in Computer Science (we will consider strong master’s students with research experience demonstrated through publications)

  • Strong understanding of networking and internet protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, BGP, HTTP, etc.)

  • Existing portfolio of network measurement projects (publication and/or course projects)

  • Expert in Python

  • Experience with SQL and NoSQL (e.g., Mongo, Hadoop)

  • Great written, verbal, and persuasive communication skills

This is a paid summer internship opportunity and successful interns will be considered for full time jobs upon graduation. This role will be based in Sydney, Australia.

Why Cisco

#WeAreCisco, where each person is unique, but we bring our talents to work as a team and make a difference, powering an inclusive future for all.

We embrace digital, and help our customers implement change in their digital businesses. Some may think we’re “old” (36 years strong) and only about hardware, but we’re also a software company. And a security company. We even invented an intuitive network that adapts, predicts, learns and protects. No other company can do what we do –you can’t put us in a box! But “Digital Transformation” is an empty buzz phrase without a culture that allows for innovation, creativity, and yes, even failure (if you learn from it.) Day to day, we focus on the give and take. We give our best, give our egos a break, and give of ourselves (because giving back is built into our DNA.) We take accountability, bold steps, and take difference to heart. Because without diversity of thought and a dedication to equality for all, there is no moving forward.

So, you have colorful hair? Don’t care. Tattoos? Show off your ink. Like polka dots? That’s cool. Pop culture geek? Many of us are. Passion for technology and world changing? Be you, with us.

We recognize that diverse teams make the strongest teams, and we encourage people from all backgrounds to apply.
