Job Summary
Forming part of J.P. Morgan's Global Equity Research Team, the Australia Equity Research Team covers around 180 Australian and New Zealand listed companies across all major industry groups, with a particular focus on the Mining sector for this role. The team is supported by specialist staff who provide equity strategy, financial database, ESG, quantitative and economic expertise. Equity research products (fundamental analysis, thematic pieces, working models, etc.) are produced, published, and distributed globally to institutional clients. Bespoke research and corporate access also form part of the overall equity research product offering.
Job Responsibilities
This VP/ED role sits within the front office and operates in a dynamic environment. You will partner closely with various internal parties and provide up-to-date, industry-leading research with a particular emphasis on the Mining sector. Your days will be filled analyzing data and building models to assist clients from across the sector. You'll be able to recognize critical data points, analytical concepts, and come to logical conclusions within the modeling/valuation process.

You'll be able to recognize critical data points, analytical concepts, and come to logical conclusions within the modeling/valuation process.
- Lead \"ground-breaking\" and thought-provoking valuation work across mining asset classes and for different investor types; produce cross-asset class work in collaboration with peers.
- Distinguish whether or not news/data is already priced into mining securities. Make calls with conviction even in the face of changing conditions or conflicting pressures.
- Identify and call mining sector trends before competitors; act as a sounding board for top clients or traders.
- Be recognized as the expert in mining research and a market leader for information, able to influence the Street's thinking.
- Commodity market coverage with a focus on supply / demand dynamics
- Oversee and drive the modeling work of junior team members, including directing the team on how to allocate their modeling time.
- Be accessible and proactive with clients and their needs, providing outstanding internal sales and trading coverage.
- Complete models with an intense resolve to avoid missing any market or timing opportunities.
- Communicate your team's mining sector ideas persuasively to internal and external parties; tailor communications by client need/type.
- Understand the firm's approach and policies for managing risks in relevant business and applicable legal and regulatory rules, and follow policies.
- Build a foundation of trust with clients/internal parties by demonstrating an understanding of their needs and clearly articulating ideas.
- Prepare presentation materials and participate in deal pitches, with a focus on mining sector opportunities.
- Sell the whole firm, offering clients the full array of our product offerings. Demonstrate in-depth understanding of the spectrum of the firm's research platform and products.
Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills
- Minimum 10 years' experience gained within a Mining Industry and/or Research role in an investment banking environment, with significant exposure to the Mining sector.
- Ability to discuss in detail your knowledge of the current market (including trends) for the Mining sector.
- Ability to discuss in detail your understanding of the implications of news on a variety of asset classes and for different classes of investors, with a focus on mining.
- Ability to discuss in detail your understanding of how to create new analytical approaches and devise new frameworks for seeking out mining market opportunities.
- Ability to tailor high-quality comments/communications to particular audiences (external clients, traders, salespeople) and to \"hook\" them into your work.
- Demonstrable written and spoken presentation skills such that presentations have maximum impact on the audience.
