Job Description

About the role

Join Sydney Airport’s Safety & Wellbeing team as a Safety Business Partner—a pivotal role supporting the effective implementation of our Safety Management System (SMS), Safety Strategy, and associated policies. You’ll work across a diverse and complex environment, including Aviation Operations, Property and Facilities Management, Retail, Landside Roads, and Construction.

As a key member of the team, you’ll champion safety initiatives, drive continuous improvement, and embed safety into every phase of project delivery. You’ll lead incident investigations, oversee safety reporting, conduct audits, and deliver impactful training programs, ensuring safety is at the heart of everything we do.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to

  • Champion the SMS and Safety & Wellbeing Strategy, partnering with business units to drive awareness and continuous improvement.
  • Lead and support the delivery of Critical Risk program initiatives.
  • Oversee safety event reporting and identify emerging issues using the WHS reporting system (Safeguards/Noggin 2.0).
  • Develop and review operating procedures, risk registers, and facilitate safety engagements and risk assessments.
  • Support and deliver Safety-in-Design processes throughout project lifecycles.
  • Manage hazardous materials programs, including inspections and ongoing assurance.
  • Lead and contribute to incident investigations, ensuring corrective actions align with SMS requirements.

About you

  • Cert IV or Diploma in Work Health & Safety.
  • At least 5 years’ experience as a WHS professional, ideally in high-risk, complex, multi-PCBU environments (construction experience highly regarded).
  • In-depth knowledge of safety laws, regulations, and standards.
  • Proven experience developing and reviewing safety policies and procedures.
  • ICAM trained lead investigator.
  • Exceptional organisational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Collaborative, solution-focused, and able to build strong relationships within a Business Partner model.
