About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Financial Accountant to join a General Insurance Company in Australia. This is a global underwriting leader providing best-in-class property, casualty and specialty reinsurance and insurance solutions.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Financial Accountant that will be responsible for supporting the financial operations, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and ideally having a background in general insurance.

Purpose and Accountabilities of the role

  • Support the preparation of financial statements / APRA returns,
  • Monthly balance sheet reconciliation,
  • Monthly reconciliation between insurance systems and the general ledger,
  • Documenting and building on procedures,
  • Journal entries leading up to month/quarter/year end close,
  • Assisting with the preparation of the quarterly CFO report,
  • Supporting the Finance Operations team with the preparation and lodgement of the various indirect taxes and duties (GST, Stamp Duty, etc),
  • Supporting the Finance Operations team with Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable,
  • Completing Industry Surveys (ABS),
  • Annual external audit work; answering audit queries, investigation, assisting with sample testing,
  • Quarterly reconciliation between Local results and US GAAP,
  • Support in preparing the annual tax returns and Fringe Benefits Tax Return,
  • Ad Hoc tasks

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Competencies

  • CPA or CA qualified,
  • Minimum 5 years of financial accounting experience preferably within the General Insurance industry,
  • Experience using general ledger systems (Oracle, PeopleSoft, etc),
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills,
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel,
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy,
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with stakeholders at all levels,
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
