Position Title: Senior Accountant

Location: Scoresby, Victoria

Reports To: Financial Controller

Position Summary: The Senior Accountant will serve as a key liaison between the Global Business Services (GBS) centre and the local business divisions. This role is responsible for ensuring the completeness and integrity of financial information, supporting local business needs, and facilitating effective communication and collaboration with the GBS centre. Additional responsibilities include handling specific local tasks such as bank guarantees, tax lodgements, inventory valuation, and variance investigations.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting and Analysis:

  • Collaborate with the GBS team to ensure all financial transactions are recorded correctly and reported accurately.
  • Review and approve financial data provided by the GBS team, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Raise and resolve issues related to Hyperion Financial Management (HFM) mapping.
  • Collaborate with the GBS team to ensure that statutory financial reports comply with local regulations and standards, and are lodged per statutory deadline.
  • Provide financial analysis and insights to support business decision-making.

Compliance and Internal Controls:

  • Ensure compliance with Group Accounting Policies and Procedures, local accounting standards, tax legislations, legal regulations and standard processes.
  • Coordinate with the GBS and external tax consultants to ensure compliance with local tax legislations and reporting requirements.
  • Partner with GBS to ensure completion of local tax audits and reviews by the local tax authorities.
  • Liaise with GBS and internal/external auditors to facilitate audit processes and ensure the timely completion of audits.
  • Be responsible for the administration of the ATO portal, including tax lodgement (GST, PAYG instalment notices).
  • Ensure timely lodgement of payment times reporting and business statistics surveys.

Enhancing Operational Efficiency:

  • Find opportunities for improvements in execution and efficiencies in collaboration with the GBS centre.
  • Lead initiatives to streamline accounting processes and enhance the quality of financial information.

Support and Training:

  • Provide training and support to local business divisions on accounting policies, procedures, and systems.
  • Assist in resolving accounting issues and discrepancies in coordination with the GBS centre, regional and global accounting team

Treasury Management:

  • Supervise the management of bank guarantees and physical cheques.
  • Liaise with local banks to ensure efficient handling of financial transactions and banking relationships.

Insurance and Inventory Management:

  • Handle insurance certificates and ensure they are up-to-date.
  • Ensure compliance of annual inventory count and cycle count programs to global accounting policy.
  • Work with the GBS team to tackle raised inventory related variances and issues.
  • Handle and ensure the correct application of inventory valuation methods in line with company policies and accounting standards.
  • Work with commercial teams to evaluate and implement processes to improve control, efficient use and financial return from inventory used through the selling process; demonstration stocks, service spare parts and loan equipments.

Ad Hoc Projects:

  • Participate in special projects and initiatives as required by the local business or corporate finance team.
  • Support the implementation of new accounting systems and tools.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or equivalent certification required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in multinational corporation(s) and/or big 4/mid tier accounting firm(s).
  • Experience working and coordinating with offshore teams is highly desirable.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively liaise between different teams and cultures.
  • Proficiency in SAP, Oracle E1 and advanced Excel skills.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
  • High level of integrity and professionalism.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers.

Working Conditions:

  • This position may require occasional travel to the GBS centre or other business locations.
  • Flexibility in working hours may be required to accommodate communication with the GBS centre in different time zones.
